Arado Ar296A Training Aircraft




Derived from Arado Ar96B as a private venture. Features all metal construction and uprated engine. Adopted by the Luftwaffe in limited numbers from 1943 onward.


Technical Description (Interim)

Enclosed cabin for student pilot and instructor in tandem. Can be fitted with one 7.92mm MG17 with 220 rounds for weapons training. Racks for two 50 kg practice bombs fitted.

Powerplant: One Argus As411 MA inverted V-12 air cooled piston engine rated at 580 hp.

Empty weight: 1,643 kilograms
Maximum takeoff weight: 2,060 kilograms

Maximum speed: 330 kph at sea level

Just out of curiosity is this the OTL wooden Ar396?

No. The historical Ar396 design was built in all wood due to lack of strategic materials. As that problem does not apply, this is derived from the historical Ar296 design and is all metal.
