The labour strike of the Refrigerators Unions has finally ended after four weeks. The union had withdrawn its labour from all refrigerator plants in harbours and elsewhere in the country in a call for improved working conditions and pay. The strike soon spread and became almost national in its scope, leading to shortages of refrigerated produce and higher food prices. Finally after meetings with the management of the largest firms, chaired by the Ministry of Labour, a compromise deal was agreed.

Atlantean-Argentine Rocket Programme 1942-43 Update

Early 1942 was spent modifying the AAM-4 (codenamed Black) and no less than 380 changes were made to the design of the engines and rocket [Note: the AAM-4 began testing in July 1941 with disastrous results!]. During a test on 11 May 1942, Black-4 reached a 38km ceiling before contact was lost and it tumbled out of control exploding in mid-air. Black-5 reached 80km (265,000ft) and travelled 120 miles. The sixth and seventh failed to climb further than 500m before either tumbling out of control or the engine cutting out.
The project was nearly cancelled at this point but Mr Minia and his team managed to persuade the Atlantean government to keep funding the project and a new gyro stabilisation system was fitted. The next three launches from November 1942 to February 1943 went well and Black-8, 9 and 10 all travelled 100-120 miles downrange on almost perfect flightpaths.
Two further AAM-4 rockets were built (Black-11 and Black-12) with refined FMA/ RRF RL-AO-203D engines and these were launched in September 1943 and were fully successful reaching 300,000 feet and travelling 140 miles downrange. At that point the AAM-4 programme was terminated and work concentrated on completing the design of the AAM-5 (codenamed Gold) rocket and tests were scheduled for the end of 1944.
