You´re right, this needs an update. *g* Except for the location I live in the data provided is no longer correct.

I´m 30 now and an industrial engineer working as a consultant for P3 at AIRBUS Industries in Hamburg.

Hmm...an update is in order.

I'm 33 and married. I'm currently a "policy wonk" with the Canadian government in Canada's National Capital Region...which is Officialese for Ottawa, ON and Gatineau, QC. I live southeast of Ottawa on a hobby farm that absorbs most of my free time, energy, and money.

My father's interest in military history steered me in the same direction as a child; I built models from kits and from scratch. I began to lose interest while in high school, and did not really pick it up again until shortly before Wesworld began. I haven't got time for models...but I gotta admit it'd be cool to build one of Akbar.

I like to read, occasionally roleplay, am becoming gradually proficient as a handyman, and collect rocks, swords, and (apparently) livestock.

Hi
I'm an 18 year old first year Civil engineering student at the University of Birmingham, Uk.
Other than Alternative histories, i am involved in the Railway preservation movement, from which my screen-name stems.

How exactly does your name originate from the Railway preservation movement Earl?

I have a reasonable interest in trains myself, having an N scale trainset I'm currently hording till I get up the gumption to build a true layout.

I think that is an engine number if I recall. I currently have an HO scale layout and pay a little to keep the SP&S 700 in operation. Oh and while on the cruiser these last few weeks I went on a train trip through the southern end of the Copper Canyon, if that means anything to the railfans.

Great Western railway number 822, Earl

She is one of the Locos on the Welshpool & Llanfair light Railway, mid Wales, on which I am a volunteer.

Wow, we have a few train enthusiasts here!

I haven't managed to lay track yet, but I'm starting to come up with a layout.

I thought I'd posted here already, but I guess not;

23, currently marooned in Tampa. I'm from Long Island, but I came down here to help my Grandmother out (no one else wanted to move down here), but the family panicked when I went on a vacation last year, and she's been moved back to NY....however the family forgot to move me too. <<

I was doing maintainance work at an ALF until a few weeks ago. Looking for a new job, since the ALF changed owners.

I'm 18 years old, I currently live in the tiny town of Naselle, which is located in SW Washington State in the US of A. My grandfather served in the Navy in WW2 (and got to see the first atomic flash...talk about being at the start of a new historical era) and again in Korea, where he served as a medic to Marine Corps personnel at Inchon and other fun places. He and my father, who served with the Pershing missile batteries in Germany (Frankfurt, IIRC) interested me in all things military from an early age.

In addition to alternate history and military history/technology/weapons, I am an athlete with modest success, lettering over the years in (American) football, basketball, and baseball: in other words, I like sports. I intend on attending Baylor University in Texas next year to study engineering.

Howdy All,

I'm 37 and live in a small town on the North Coast of California. I'm a licensed forester, which in CA means I not only do field work setting up harvest plans, but then I have to write the several hundred page document explaining what I want to do, why, and why that's ok.

Of possible interest to the railroad enthusiast would be that part of my job is archaeological surveys. This means I find and record Native American sites, but also the old logging railroads of 60-130 years ago. The tracks are almost all pulled, but the grades, trestles, sometimes ties and cabins are there. A friend is coming out with a book on railroading, an acquaintance has a ~40’ model of the old logging railroad from the wharf at the mill along the beach to ‘Camp 1’. Oh, and we have an excursion train “The Skunk Train” in town, and the “Depot” mall has 3-4 of the old logging engines on display.

I've been trying to remember when I got interested in warships. I know when I was around 8, I read Harold Lamb's "Hannibal", "The Night to Remember" and everything I could on the American Civil War. By my mid teens I was reading on the US Navy and battleships. My college had a respectable section on warships which I poured over and got into the stage of wanting to understand the whys of the designs as well as the raw stats. I also drew up concepts of a hypothetical navy that I felt might be realistic.

I wound up minoring in history basically by accident- I checked my courses and found all I needed was "Intro to History" to finish a minor.

Some years ago I dug up the notes from then and decided to try to model the navy, but I would need a tremendous amount of additional information. So I turned to google and found Springsharp. I'd need welding and American power plants to make my ships work :)

Hi all,

As of right now, I'm 18 and living in Edmond, Oklahoma, USA.

I've always had an interest in history, particularly military history (I frequent alternatehistory.com) My grandfather flew a P-51 over Germany (was shot down and captured), but I never knew him - so I've been developing my interest on my own.

I've had an interest in "technical" stuff for most of my life. I've moved from trains, to Star Wars, to the American Civil War, to computer hardware, to World War II, and now more specifically into naval history. I've gotten into a lot of this through video games that serve as an "in" to a genre - I got interested in the specifics of WWII naval warfare through the computer game War in the Pacific. (Recently I've created a mod for it which uses some of Alt_Naval and CanisD's work, among others. see link))

I stumbled across WesWorld through a link from Warship Projects and have been following for a while now.. I was previously involved in NodeWars 2, another nation-simulation, although set in a futuristic universe. (Link to my very old OOB: http://nodewar.penguinbomb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=661)

By October of this year, I should be at the University of Oklahoma in Norman studying history. I plan on teaching contemporary history in a college somewhere. In the meantime, I just have to struggle through my last few weeks of high school.

What do you mean by "liberal view"?

I edited that out because I thought it was stupid to bring up politics when no one else had (doh), but I'm more center-left in my views than most of my gaming/military friends, for various reasons. Which is pretty rare as far as I've seen, so worth noting. :)

There does seem to be an emphasis of right-of-centre peoples attracted towards this sort of stuff. Myself for example, I am Chairman of Bath Conservative Future but would definitely describe myself as a "liberal conservative". We are an inclusive bunch, we even have a clause in our constitution "Socialists are not actively hunted"

Anyway, not much talk of politics here apart from an in-game perspective. Strangley most countries now have right-of-centre governments. I wonder if this is indicative of our own perspectives?

An update to my information;

I am 18 doing a masters in Mechanical Engineering and French at University of Bath (not to be confused with Bath Spa University). I love motorbikes, aeroplanes and ships which sort of explains my choice of course.

Well it certainly is easier to Get Things Done. Irregardless of whatever political beliefs you have, I think everyone has wanted to be the one calling the shots at some point or another, and that's a lot easier when power is concentrated with strong decision-makers, rather than spread around. :) I certainly don't plan on changing the Filipino system ("he who has the gold, makes the rules") much...

And agree on the inclusive politics - the last thing anyone needs is for this place to turn into Warships1.

I'd say I'm in the same camp as RA, but just a wee bit more Conservative. I don't mind a liberal point of veiw from time to time, each side needs the other to keep them honest.

On social issues I'm fairly middle of the road, Militarily I'm a hawk (finnish it quickly) 9/11 is the reason for that, economically I'm clueless and religiously I'm slightly on the liberal side.

If your not shy about talking politics heres a site you might like, like any political discussion you certainly have to read up and gather your facts as there are "sharp as a whip" types who can poke holes in your arguement faster than Yamato vs. Atlanta.
