LT.43 Light Tank

A design being developed in Yugoslavia to replace its obsolete LT.38 light tanks; production might get under way some time very late in 1943, if not 1944.

Engine: V-12 air-cooled diesel of 14.5 litres displacement, rated at 250 bhp at 2,500 rpm

Transmission: Praga-Wilson TN-100 epicyclic pre-selector transmission with five forward and one reverse gear. Praga Wilson epicyclic clutch and brake steering.

Suspension: Four rubber-tyred wheels per side, each mounted on a cranked stub axle and each pair of wheels being controlled by a semi-epicyclic spring freely pivoted.

Road speed: 48 kph
Cross country speed: 25 kph
Road radius: 200 km

Gradient: 30%
Trench Crossing: 2,000mm
Vertical Obstacle: 700mm
Fording Depth: 900mm

Armament – Main: 57mm with 50 rounds
Armament – Coaxial: 7.92mm machinegun with 3,000 rounds

VEry nice. A neat looking tank with very believable parameters. Considering the relatively large gun for a tank of that size I guess the space within the turret could be pretty cramped....maybe some external storage boxes would be useful.
And have you thought of a muzzle brake?

The gun is a rather medium-velocity gun, and I doubt that a muzzle brake would be of much value; the turret is going to be cramped, even though the chassis has been widened (compared to the OTL LT38) to accommodate a larger turret ring. In service, equipment bins might be fitted.

Thanks. It ought to be useful in replacing the LT.38 in the RYA's armoured cavalry regiments, which operate as independent screening units. It might also find a niche in the export market, once it gets through its teething trials. The chassis will probably be adapted as the basis for SP guns eventually.
