Ceremonies held today marked the retirement from service of the BFW Bf109 interceptor and the Handley Page Hereford maritime strike aircraft. Numbers 31 and 32 Squadrons at Ladevci Air Base, Kraljevo handed over the last of their Augsburg eagles and are now mounted on the Soko Jastreb, and at Dubinje Air Base, Sjenica, Number 82 Squadron took to the air with its new Soko Zmaj attack bombers.

The first pre-production example of the Drzava Fabrika Aviona Type 222 Vihor advance training monoplane was delivered to the Royal Yugoslav Air Force Test Centre here. It is anticipated that service testing will take up most, if not all, of the remainder of the year and a decision on procurement of a quantity of the aircraft is not expected before January.

The first of the large Project 1942 Kappa destroyer leaders was launched to day and immediately moved to the fitting out wharf where her construction is to be completed. Work began immediately in clearing the drydock wherein she had been constructed in order to prepare for the keel-laying of the second ship of the class, which is expected for next month.

The fleet tender Petrovic Karageorge and the six motor torpedo boats of the Tenth Flotilla arrived in the port today to complement the defences of the port alongside the armoured gunboats of the Second Coast Defence Group.

The Army Demonstration Battalion received its first issue of M40 Rocket Launchers to replace its elderly M34 Antitank Rifles. The unit will develop tactics and assist in the preparation of field manuals for this new element of the Army’s panoply.
