In addition to ordnance manufacturing facilities operated by private firms, the Army Armaments Office controlled a number of facilities for the loading of ammunition, its storage, distribution and testing. These facilities were designated as Heeres-Munitionsanstalt – Army Munitions Facility, or Heeres-Nebenmunitionsanstalt – Army Munitions Support Facility.

Among the tasks allocated to army munitions facilities were: the loading of ammunition from components and propellants separately procured; the storage of ready-use ammunition; the loading of chemical munitions, their storage and control; and the decommissioning of munitions no longer required for use and recovery of materials.


Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Dessau – established in 1915, reactivated in 1933; loading and storage of chemical munitions

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Feucht – established in 1933; loading and storage of artillery ammunition

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Güstrow – established in 1933; loading and storage of artillery ammunition

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Hänigsen – established in 1938; storage of artillery ammunition

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Ingolstadt – established in 1935; loading and storage of small arms ammunition

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Lehre – established in 1934; storage of artillery ammunition

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Lockstedter Lager – established in 1912, reactivated in 1932; storage of small arms ammunition; located within the Lockstedter Lager military training area

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Lübbecke – established in 1937; loading and storage of small arms ammunition and pyrotechnics

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Mölln – established in 1934; storage of artillery ammunition

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Obergebra – established in 1932; storage of artillery ammunition

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt St. Georgen – established in 1933; loading and storage of munitions and chemical munitions

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Sennelager – established in 1915, reactivated in 1931; storage of small arms ammunition; located within the Sennelager military training area

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Urlau – established in 1937; loading and storage of munitions and chemical munitions

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Volpriehausen – established in 1938; loading and storage of small arms ammunition and pyrotechnics

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Wildflecken – established in 1937; storage of artillery ammunition; located within the Wildflecken military training area

Heeres-Munitionsanstalt Wulfen – established in 1936; loading and storage of small arms and artillery ammunition


Heeres-Nebenmunitionsanstalt Kleinbodungen – established in 1940; military equipment storage park and repair and recovery facility
