Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft KG

The company, headquartered in Seevetal, was founded in 1907 by Paula and Laurens Janssen in in the town of Leer, as a tea importer. In 1940 the firm moved from that role and remade itself into a tea packer and mass-marketer of tea. In this regard it remains one of the three firms permitted to market the “Echter Ostfriesentee” (genuine East Frisian tea) blend, but has created the ‘Milford’ brand for the national market. In 1942 the firm acquired Grosch Tee in Innsbruck to gain entry to the markets in the Austrian provinces, and in 1945 it acquired the firm Eduard Meßmer und Compagnie of Frankfurt with regional sales in Franconia and Bavaria. In 1948 the firm launched a new blend of tea, ‘Lord Nelson’ aimed at the wider European market, which may be found packed either in the traditional loose form or in the novel form of individual tea bags.
