Royal Train leaves Copenhagen

Their Majesties, King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine, departed early this morning on the Royal train for the Port of Toulon in the South of France to meet the survivors of the Copenhagen.

His Majesty is said to be in low spirits as a result of the unexpected events of the last few days. It is well known that the King is an avid supporter of the Navy, but not so well known is the fact that the King served his last cruise aboard the Copenhagen before returning to the Royal Palace in 1910, where he aided his Father with affairs of state until he ascended the throne in 1912.

The Royal Party are expected to reach Toulon on the afternoon of the 17th

Berlin Observative, 16 January 1924

The Royal Family of Denmark was treated to an ugly spectacle this afternoon as their train travelled south of Hamburg.

Over a hundred police were in the process of breaking up a demonstration along the rail tracks. The demonstrators, estimated at about two hundred, were members of the Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands and local factory workers, armed to the teeth with a variety of rotten food, bottles, stones and other items. Several had been waving banners denouncing the Danish royal family prior to the arrival of police.

Kapitan Erich Schultz of the Hamburg Police told the Observative, "We had sufficient warning about the riot to provide an alert to the train. As the rails themselves were intact, and no weapons were found on the demonstrators, there is no reason to believe that the Danish royal family was in any danger whatsoever."

President Ebert issued a public apology to the Danish royal family, saying, "While Germany is trying to establish a tradition of being able to speak one's own mind, we are still grappling with a lunatic fringe obsessed with the unworkable."

A Communique from the Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands

Again , the repressive security appartus of the capitalist state strikes against the Revolution ! They have no respect for their fellow Man, no respect for moral integrity, and no courage! The only things they do have in ample supply are truncheons and handcuffs .

Friends, a revolutionary supporter in the Danish Railway informed us of an opportunity to state our case to the Danish Royal Family . He told us when their train would pass by certain locations, and we were able to organize a rally near Hamburg.

Those capitalist lap-dogs in the local police would have the world believe we intended to subject the train to a barrage of rotten food, filth, and stones , or worse. It's an outrageous lie!

Obviously , our intent was to inform the Danish king of the plight of the working class, both here and in his own country. We brought along moldy potatoes and rotted cabbage to show the king what the workers must live off; we brought empty bottles to show him that we have nothing to drink; we brought bottles filled with human waste to illustrate the squalor that the industrialists force us to toil in. We had no intention of resorting to violence - communism is all about peace and harmony!

As those of you who read the tabloid Observative will know, the police arrive in overwhelming numbers, and despite our best efforts to stand tall, they beat us down and hauled most of us off to their gulags . Those of us who eluded their clutches are resolved, however, to meet the Danish royal family on their way back home. The welfare of our Danish working class comrades matters to us - we will not let them down! We are confident that the king will see the error of his ways and agreed to form a socialist republic in Denmark! We just need to stop his train for a moment to speak with him, and that we shall do!

Berlingske Tidende January 17th 1924

(Danish "Tabloid" paper)

From the Editor's desk....

I feel sorry for the people of Germany.

I have several friends that are German, and I feel sorry for them.

The reason for my sorrow........
The group of idiots who claim to be standing up for their countrymen's rights, The Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands, continue to do nothing but damage to the image of Germany and Germans.

Our beloved King, going to visit the survivors of the Copenhagen disaster was the focus of yet another of the K.P.D.'s moronic stunts. These "Protests" are designed only to cause disruption to the lives of their countrymen and have little to do with the real politics of the working classes they claim to represent.

If these "Friends of the Working People" really CARED for the working classes, they would applaude our King for canceling his schedule and rushing to Toulon to check on the welfare of the survivors of the Copenhagen, rather than trying to damage to efforts of President Ebert and his government in returning Germany to the international community.

I hope the people of Germany will see these fools for what they really are, and follow the path of reason offered by Herr Ebert and ignore the path of hardship and suffering the K.P.D. are offering.

Yours in hope for the future,
Olaf Schwartz, Editor Berlingske Tidende.
(Half German, Half Danish, before the K.P.D. try saying I don't know what the German people are suffering!!!)

Good riposte. Perhaps we'll see the 1920s version of a Flame War grace these pages soon?
