Romanian News and Events Q3/34

September 18th 1934- The Naval Ministry announced today a deal was reached with the Italian shipbuilding company Ansaldo for the construction of a small battleship in their facilities in Italy followed by one build locally with that company's technical support.

Asked the reason of the decision to build those ships the response was "the appearance of the Turkish dreadnaughts changed the balance of power in the region and while it happened some years ago it was considered by our Ministry that lack of balance needed to be addressed."

While the Philippines regrets that its offer was not taken up, we are willing to provide to our Rumanian friends to meet their cruiser, destroyer, submarine and/or other requirements.

September 23rd 1934- It was announced today a deal was reached with the German aircraft manufacturer Heinkel for the delivery of an unknown number of their new fighters(1)with a delivery date expected to be early next year. The acquisition of this aircrafts was explained as necessary to upgrade the growing obsolete aircrafts of our air forces.
