Vladivostok Verifier, 12 November 1937

Pacific fleet spokesman Captain Second Rank Vasili Gnedin announced todat a port visit by China's new aircraft carrier HICMS Fuzhou, now on her shakedown cruise. "Russian Federation pacific fleet are proud to host such a fine ship, and are certain that her visit will strengthen relations between our two navies."

Tallinn Tattler, 18 December 1937

This day dawned bright and clear, a favorable omen for a day of such importance to Russian federation Navy, for today, newly modernised battleships of Imperator Petr Veliki class leave drydocks that have been their homes for nearly two years. Their new, sleek, gracefully flared bows, extensive new electronics fit, and potent new main battery demonstrate that this time was put to superlative use. Their guns are the most powerful ever placed aboard ship, propelling their 1,200kg projectile at over 800m/second. Certainly with their return to service, Russia's naval security will be greatly enhanced.

Upon completion of their shakedown cruise to Murmansk, Flag of Russian Federation Navy will be returned to Imperator Petr Veliki, who transferred it to Battlecruiser Izmail on 4 December 1935.

But your relieved he didn't say Hamburg! :D

1,200kg shells sound good but Vickers is working on guns that make that look like a peashooter.

Russia has 36 420mm on the water now

and 48 more entering service at the end of next year.

With highest respect for Vickers, whom Obukhov Works owe a great debt of gratitude, RF naval staff are less than impressed by guns that won't be on the water for another 7 years or so.

RF naval staff expect next 7 years to be... interesting...

I don't see the 420/53 being that impressive. Lots of muzzle blast, low barrel life and penetration that isn't that great for the gun size. Good hitting power with the heavy shells, but probably not worth it overall.
