Summary
The Irish Naval Service has completed work on its first home-built destroyer, the S-1Connacht, which begins trials on the 18th of February. Two further Deirdre-class vessels, Grainne and Niamh, are laid down for the Department of Fisheries. Two 150-ton seagoing armed tugs are built to military specifications. Four S-class destroyers are purchased from Britain.

Current plans posit the rebuilding of the S-class destroyers into Contae-class frigates (destroyer escorts) armed with six 3.7" DP guns. They will receive the hull numbers S-5 through S-8. A fleet tender, LÉ Meath, will be laid down in April in Galway. Analysis of the two M-1 "E-boat" Motor Torpedo Boats has pronounced the design successful, and series production will start in mid-1937 with fourteen boats ordered for delivery by December 1938. Three further Provinces-class destroyers, named Ulster, Munster, and Leinster, will be laid down in October 1937 presuming the trials of Connacht are deemed successful.
