Hi there...

Does the rearmoring fit chapter K/III(V) of the Cleito Treaty?

Thanks,

HoOmAn

Interesting question

Did rearmourings-already-in-progress have to meet that standard, or were they exempt?

You refer to this chapter, don´t you?

No retained capital ships or aircraft carriers shall be reconstructed
except for the purpose of providing means of defence against air and
submarine attack, and subject to the following rules: The Contracting
Powers may, for that purpose, equip existing tonnage with bulge or
blister or anti-air attack deck protection, providing the increase of
displacement thus effected does not exceed 5,000 tons (5,080 metric
tons) displacement for each ship. No alterations in side armor, in
calibre, number or general type of mounting of main armament shall be
permitted.

The rearmoring of these ships does indeed include an increase in the main belt´s thickness. However I´m not sure these ships are affected by this chapter. The treaty specifies that no ship shall be reconstructed, but doesn´t mention ships that are already on a reconstruction...

It would be different If I had began the rearmoring after the treaty was signed, but these ships began their works in 1918-19.

I see and agree. Will we get detailed information on the reconstruction?

Renown and Repulse in 1921

Main changes:

- Main belt thickness increased from 6in to 9in
- Upper belt thickness increased from 1,5in to 6in
- Deck armour increased from 3in to 3,5in
- 2 76mm AA guns replaced by 4 4in AA guns
- 3 new 40mm quadruple mounts added
- 5 new 20mm mounts added
- Miscellaneous weight and shells per main gun reduced in order to balance the ship.

As the engines are not upgraded the ships are 1,5 knots slower and the light displacement is increased from 29299 tons to 30215 tons.

The recoil factor is exactly 1.00...need to shave 0.01 off somehow.

Perhaps that chapter of the Treaty was a response to R&R's latest shop time...
