Statement from Germany, 27 June 1921

The Government of the Republic of Germany is saddened by news of the passing of His Majesty King Gustavius V and Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The German people extend their sympathies to the citizens of Nordmark in their time of grief.

The Government of the Republic of Germany is appalled by the possibility of this disaster being an deliberate act by a sovereign state and will, if asked, assist in Nordmark's investigation.

With the situation in Nordmark more clearly understood, the Government of the Republic of Germany considers it unnecessary to maintain land and naval forces at a heightened level of alert. Orders issued to that effect on 24 June are now cancelled. Picket operations and the restriction on foreign warship access will remain in effect until the cause of the disaster are more clearly defined.
