Air Defenses

French Radar Coverage
Defense of the French Metropolitan Region currently incorporates approximately forty SFR-3 air search teledetectors organized into several regional defensive zones or lines. These teledetector lines were created to give "bubble" like protection around key cities such as Paris, Dijon, Marseilles, and Brest. The depicted image represents those teledetector stations grouped in the French national air defense network.

Mobile stations with lesser range may be deployed to fill gaps on an as-needed basis, and ground-based spotting stations are also used to provide backup. All major French military airfields, as well as major civilian airfields, have also started receiving mid-ranged teledetection equipment for control of aircraft and secondary detection.
