The RSwN of 1914

I have upgraded my site with more ships and maps.

Can anyone tell me how low a can have my hullstrength for a destroyer or torpedoboat laid down between 1900 an 1918?

My understanding is that both cross-sectional and longitudinal hull strengths should be greater than .5 for light units. You'll still get a hull strength warning, though.

I thought cross-sectional hull strength only. I've noticed with my destroyers that the longitudinal hull strength is higher than cross-sectional hull strength (due to raising the freeboard to avoid the 'poor seaboat' warning) so there is no need to worry about the longitudinal hull strength.
As long as there is only a "Caution: Hull subject to strain in open-sea" warning (and not a "design failure" warning) and the cross-sectional hull strength is 0.5 or higher, you're okay.
