Sundry Nordmark-news July 5th, 1921

Note on newspapers: Berlingske Tidende is a Danish newspaper - i.e., not in Nordmark. I use it for certain news because it would not fall under the influence of Nordmark government, and thus be more free in its expression, and its choice of what to report. Expressen is a Nordmark newspaper from Stockholm, more dedicated to regular news - sometimes things don't fit into a more navally oriented publication such as Marinkuriren, and then Expressen and Dagens Nyheter (similar to Expressen) are utilised. Other newspapers of more local nature that may crop up include titles such as Aftenposten (Oslo), Morgenbladet (Oslo), Adresseavisen (whose formal name is Trondhjem Alene Privilegerte Adresse-Contoirs Efteretninger, but that is rather a mouthful, and it belongs to Trondheim), Bergens Tidende (Bergen), Stavanger Aftenblad, and Avisen Nordlys (Tromsø)

BERLINGSKE TIDENDE: ARGENTINE PRESIDENT SPEAKS
Following a flurry of international criticism, the president of the Republic of Argentina, H.E. Ivan Dario Gomez, appeared before the jointly assembled members of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies and Senate yesterday, to give a brief speech, also broadcast over shortwave radio.

"Senors Deputies and Senors Senators. Fellow countrymen of the glorious Republic of Argentina.

Two weeks ago, armed forces of the Republic of Argentina completed the first task involved in setting to right the injustice done to the Republic over several decades. Presently Argentina's sun-banner flies over our rightful possession, the island of South Georgia. Cruisers of the Nordmark Navy were cruising the South Atlantic with clearly hostile intent, but have been neutralised - which should teach the Nordics a lesson or two about Argentine tenacity.

The oppressive tyranny in Nordmark will of course not accept this, and, in order to raise international sympathy for their imperialistic tendencies, their military leaders have taken it upon themselves to murder their own king and queen, and then to attempt to lay the blame at our feet.

And they have succeeded! With disgust I see how many of the Imperialistic European oppressor-nations that are falling into step behind Nordmark in attempting to subdue the nations of the Southern Hemisphere, and to do the dirty work of the Nordics, who are too craven to venture into the South. But while the civilised world is mad with bloodlust and imperialistic adventures, on the other hand such nations as Greece, Japan, and India demonstrate what proper conduct is in matters such as these.

That Iberia has responded in the way it has, is not, of course, a surprise, since Iberia's sole interest in this matter is to once again subdue the entire continent under its tyranny - but they will not succeed. what is a surprise is the attitude of uninvoled nations such as the United States of America, who with their recent-most statement have conducted a complete betrayal against the American ideal.

But all these agents of tyranny, these thieves and murderers, are blind to think that Argentina stands alone - and they shall surprised, and they shall be shocked, and they shall - if they challenge - be defeated. Argentina is now but one of several, whose will stand together, so that they no longer shall be trodden underfoot by their inferiors. "

Responding to Gomez' speech, a spokesman for the Royal Nordmark Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement saying that Argentina clearly did not know what hostile intent constitutes, but that the Nordmark Navy will be more than happy to give practical demonstrations. The statement went on to say that the allegations by the Argentine president are ludicrous, and without any basis in truth, and concluded that truth will find the Argentine president, and it would not be to his advantage when this happens.

OOC note: The Argentina minister of foreign affairs somehow seems to have less and less hair for each passing day.

OOC note 2: The president is aware that the two Nordmark light cruisers were attacked by much more heavily armed vessels, and that the Argentine ships for a time enjoyed 2 on 1 conditions, and still one Nordmark cruiser and no Argentine armoured cruisers survived the battle. He just didn't find the topic suitable for his speech.

BERLINGSKE TIDENDE: SHIPWRECK-SURVIVORS ARRIVE, SHIP'S ID CLEAR
The Nordmark whaling-vessel Pelagos arrived two days ago at the port-city Rio Grande in South African Uruguay, carrying several hundred persons picked up in lifeboats found drifting off the coast. When arriving at Rio Grande, the ship still carried some of the lifeboats found, several of which still carried the ship's name on it - D/S Birger Jarl of Trondheim. Several of the initial survivors had died from various causes in the several days that passed between the vessel's sinking and the arrival of Pelagos; numbers so far suggest that of 463 persons carried, 355 made it to the lifeboats, and of these more than 50 died - of the oft-mentioned school-children, all made it off the ship, and indeed also survived the ordeal in the lifeboats, though several were injured. No official confirmation has so far been given concerning the cause of the sinking; officials of both the Nordmark Consulate General of Montevideo and the local authorities of South African Uruguay are said to be conducting an inquiry into the incident. Unofficial rumours persist, however, many stating that the vessel was fired upon without warning by an unidentified warship approaching from North, which then, after having left the ship in burning and sinking condition, departed the slaughter-scene without rendering assistance to the survivors.

EXPRESSEN: DUKE OF SÖDERMANLAND COMMITS SUICIDE
Prince Adam-Bertil, the Duke of Södermanland, was found dead in his home last night. The prince died at his own hands. The Prince-Regent has not at this time determined whether Prince Adam-Bertil will be granted a last restingplace in the Royal Mausoleum. The Prince had no direct descendants, and at present it is unknown how his estate will be disposed of following hise death; if found guilty, his wife is certainly out of the question. The prince resided at Ulriksdal Palace (Swedish page, with more images, possessed a wine-chateau in France, and also possessed vast capital wealth - inherited, in part, from his mother, and from other relatives.
