Iberian holdings in Central America?

Its a little hard to see on the map, but does Iberia control Nicaragua and Panama? I'm still somewhat confused about the status of the Panama Canal. It seems that the US built it, but its jointly controlled with Iberia?

Iberia controls Guatemala, Berlize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Equador, Cuba, Hispaniola (Haiti/Dominican Republic) and San Juan (Puerto Rico) in Mid/South America.
There was talk about the Panama Canal being a joint US/Iberian project before the US became a player nation, but I am not sure how the situation is right now. Perhaps you will have to fight it out with the Iberians.

Well, there are certainly forces within the US who are concerned about the status of the canal. Besides the Panama Canal and the proposed Nicaragua canal, apparently a third route is possible through the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Mexico. It was rejected because of its length, over 120 miles, but it would be the flattest route across.

Another Canal? Sounds like a cool idea.

would we then be treated to part 2 of the Mexican-American War?

Hmm...sounds veddy, veddy interestink...

...especially since there's currently a Mexican (ex-US) battleship under rebuild in New Orleans. :-)

Considering the money Mexico might gain in tolls, etc..., I don't think they would oppose the idea.

You might encounter some local resistance....but you'll also create jobs in the southern part of Mexico.

This might change the future illegal immigration problem in the United States.

Well, right now is a pretty tense time in Mexico. A rebellion against restrictions put on the Catholic church started in 1927 and lasted until 1929. That might delay plans. However, a peace treaty was negotiated by the US ambassador, so that might increase "good feelings".

Yes. Sometimes it is hard to relocate an entire village. People often do not wish to move...
