Definately over treaty specifications.

Nice work.

4 shafts, 144,000 shp / 107,424 Kw = 29.39 kts

Is this what the Hood website states as her acctual speed? Most sources clock her at 31 knots.

Quoted

43,458 t standard

Preaty damn close to Whitleys stats (43, 352). Conways (42 670 Normal) and Warship pictorial seems to be off a fair ways (42,700 standard).

Yes, but her stated normal maximum horsepower is 144,000hp and as RA has already proved that springsharp overestimates the horsepower required to acheive the same speed as the original ship.

My own sim from some time ago uses similar data but i'm going off weights and using averages for end and upper belt armours. Actually 5"-6"-7" portions. SS underestimates speed for British hulls - obviously doesn't include Froude's work with the RN in cleaning up hull forms. Massively powerful ship with masses of room for growth.

That makes more sense, I knew you'd done a sim of hood, but couldn't find it.

7

Sunday, July 23rd 2006, 11:58pm

No armour on the secondaries?

8

Monday, July 24th 2006, 10:53am

Was there any?

I think the shields were possibly 0.5" or maybe 1", not much more than this anyway. It doesn't greatly affect the sim.

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
70,479 lbs / 31,969 Kg = 24.2 x 18.0 " / 457 mm shells or 9.2 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.16
Metacentric height 6.1 ft / 1.9 m
Roll period: 17.7 seconds
Steadiness - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 67 %
- Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.84
Seaboat quality (Average = 1.00): 1.34

Hull form characteristics:
Hull has rise forward of midbreak
Block coefficient: 0.537
Length to Beam Ratio: 9.61 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 31.62 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 43 %

Ship space, strength and comments:
Space - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 93.0 %
- Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 189.2 %
Waterplane Area: 65,498 Square feet or 6,085 Square metres

Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is adequate
Room for accommodation and workspaces is excellent
Good seaboat, rides out heavy weather easily

Just impossible to fit the 20" guns, but she was more likely to be fitted with 18"/45 anyway. Speed is off by 2-3knts.
