You are naturally right. Even if the Pirates are destroyed, the ship is still there. Of this reason the ship should be able to consist also against other warships. Thus armoring must be strengthened.

WAY too much ammunition for the main battery: even assuming a ROF of 5 rpm at max rate, you probably don't need more than 150 rounds of main gun ammunition (historically, the Hippers were designed to carry 140 rounds). Deck armor is weak. I would certainly trade some of the sea-keeping for speed, for a ship like this for China I'd even sacrifice the good seaboat rating and aim for a sea-keeping of around 1.05 or so. The stability needs to be improved, but lowering the freeboard may well help that. The 88mm mountings need to be corrected, right now it's showing them all aft on the centerline.

Heh, well, that no other Chinese ship is faster than 29 knots will not be true once Baoji is launched.... Besides, it's not necessarily how fast your ships are that's important, it can be how fast your opponents ships are if there's any chance you'll be in a pursuit situation.

I'd trade the end and upper belt armor for more armor on the main turrets and barbettes, but that's more a judgement call.

The torpedo bulkhead is unrealistic on that beam with a triple 8" mounting, that weight and space can go into additional armor or engines.

If the forward 88mm mountings are on the sides, make a second installation of the 88mm weapons in SS.

Comments

She has too many shells per main gun.

She´s too slow.

Her barbet armor is way too thin.

Her misc weight is excessive.

A transom stern doesn´t make much sense on such a hull and her speed.

Placement of guns need to be re-done (at least main and secondary guns).

The torpedo bulkhead is a waste of space and weight as her beam won´t allow a usedful TDS. At a height of 2,48m it can´t cover your vitals anyway.

3rd and 4th gun 7mm armor is useless.

What are end and upper belts for? While not entirely useless I would love to hear your reasons behind them.

Definitely better. You can probably lower the forward 88mm mounts to deck level.

Take a look at the strength: you've got LOTS of remaining hull strength that can be used on anything you like. Myself, I'd use it to get the speed up to 31-32 knots, boost the turret armor to equal or greater than the belts, and then I'd see how much strength was left.

isn't the belt armour of 152mm a little bit exaggerated ?
And do i really need a conningtower armour of 152mm ?
Or should the belt armoring and the bridge armoring be identical?

6" belt armor is quite good for a 8" cruiser, but it's not outlandish in WW (see the German Admiral Hippers for example).

You don't NEED a heavily armored conning tower, but it's not a bad idea to keep the command crew safe.

What Gravina's design shows is that you can either get a very solid cruiser design on this much tonnage, OR you can go a bit smaller and still mount the same main battery.

I think 6in is not too much, especially when you might face those huge Japanese CAs with lots of heavy guns. And about the conning tower, they don´t need to be identical, just that I´m used to sim my ships that way.

And don´t worry, all you need is practice.

I was referring to the ships currently existing in the Wesworld. The name of that picture states Saint32C so I excpect it will appear in 1932.
No doubt that we are looking at the future number 1 coolest-looking Heavy Cruiser.

So can we expect the "- Looks damn good" to appear in the data of that ship as well?

Good point. I forgot that i'd added that to Zara.

Saint-32 is a modified, smaller version of the 31 class.

The Canuck vessel looks good, you'll want to slim the hullform on the plan view however.

I scaled them up from the triple 5.5" on the CLs. I've been thinking they look a bit small too, so I might adjust that for the next revision.

I did the math on the beam and length tho, so there's not much room to try slimming them, other than narrowing the bow further aft maybe.
