Any particular reason the germans are using a 155mm howitzer instead of their typical 150mm?

Because replacing all that 150mm ammunition is gonna take a lot of time.
Currently dealing with extremely heavy facts

In a word - interoperability. That and shortening the development cycle by adapting an existing design. The older 15cm guns will soldier on for a considerable period and be shifted to the reserves as soon as possible. The shift to the new caliber also brings the opportunity to introduce improved munitions with greater range.
