Notes
The twenty Project-14 "Khitriy" submarines (L-1 through L-20) are scrapped due to age, with the impending arrival of Project 86 "Kosatki" and Project 78 "Barrakuda" class submarines.

The four Varyag-class escort cruisers are retired and begin scrapping. Although these ships are relatively modern, their capability for additional electronics was limited, and the ships no longer fit the overall Russian Federation Navy's strategy.

Black Sea Fleet
-- Exercise Gideon-3: OG Pluton under F. Oktyabrsky conducts sea training across July, August, and September, totalling 37 days at sea.
-- Operation Iyeffay: OG Nika under S. Gorshkov (6th and 12th Cruiser Squadrons) cruises to Varna (Bulgaria), Athens (Greece), Chania (Greece), Syracuse (Italy), and Bizerte (French Tunisia). Not all ships make all port calls. OG Nika conducts at-sea training en route and during return voyage. Task force returns to Sevastopol on September 15th after accruing 45 days at sea.

Northern Fleet
-- Exercise Rubin-4: OG Jove under G. Levchenko conducts cruise and exercise beginning July 18th, simulating a carrier battle in the western Barents Sea.
-- Exercise Rubin-5: OG Mars under N. Sergeyev conducts cruise and exercise beginning August 5th with maneuvers in the Norwegian Sea (SW of Svalbard). 2nd Cruiser Squadron, part of OG Mars, does not return home after the completion of the exercise but begins Exercise Rubin-7.
-- Exercise Rubin-6: OG Merkuriy under A. Golovko conducts exercises in the Barents Sea beginning September 1st, simulating a force intrusion aimed at the Russian coast.
-- Exercise Rubin-7: 2nd Cruiser Squadron (Avrora-class light cruisers) and six destroyers of 9th Destroyer Flotilla form OG Afina, commanding, following Exercise Rubin-5. After refueling at sea, OG Afina sails to Deucalion, Atlantis; Norfolk, USA; Trinidad, Atlantean Venezuela; and Fortaleza, Brazil for port calls and at-sea training. OG Afina remains at sea at the end of Q3/1948.
-- Operation : 10th Submarine Flotilla conducts training in Barents Sea, Norweigian Sea, and Atlantic Ocean during August and September, transiting the Faroes Gap and sailing as far south as the 50N. Flotilla returns to Barents Sea by September 17th.
-- Guardship Razin and Tugarin on patrol in Norweigian and Barents Seas, taking weather readings and oceanographic observations near the edge of the polar icepack.
-- Operation Ovrag (Ravine): Icebreaker Admiral Nebogatov and reserve icebreaker Sibir escort aviation cruiser Afonskoye and battlecruiser Khranitel across the Northern Sea Route to join Pacific Fleet. (Continued from Q2.) Icebreakers attempting to return before winter sets in.

-- Exercise Pretoriya: OG Tserera under Admiral I. Yumashev conducts cruise to Provideniya to rendezvous with fleet forces coming across Northern Sea Route (continued from Q2, see Operation Ovrag.) Operations Group returns to Petropavlovsk in early July and immediately readies for sea again (see Exercise Oregon).
-- Exercise Oregon: OG Tserera under Admiral I. Yumashev conducts summer exercises in the Bering Sea.
-- Operation Karnataka: Torpedo Cruiser Magadan (Cam Ranh Bay) dispatched to South China Sea (off Zhanjiang and Pratas Island) to observe maritime traffic for intelligence-gathering purposes; returns to Cam Ranh Bay on July 15th.
-- Operation Palavan: Torpedo Cruiser Perekop (Cam Ranh Bay) dispatched to Taiwan Strait (off Kaohsiung) to observe maritime traffic for intelligence-gathering purposes.
-- Aviation cruiser Afonskoye joins the Pacific Fleet as new force flagship.

Other
-- Sail training ship Nadezhda departs Sevastopol June 21 for voyage to India, Japan and Russian Far East. Ship is expected in December 1948 in Vladivostok.
-- Seaplane tender / experimental vessel Zenit completes deployment in Brest, France, for collaborative weapons development project; ship returns to control of Northern Fleet in July 1948.
