Light Cruiser 1945 Study

The idea is to have a light cruiser which can hold it's ground vs enemy cruisers but is able to support destroyers in defeating enemy destroyers.

The former forms the 200mm Auto battery and the latter forms the 150mm Auto battery.

The arrangement is AB-XY where the 200mm Autos occupy the A-Y slots and the 150mm Autos occupy the B-X slots.

Here is the data sheet + drawing I did prior to the SS. I did not account for the influence of the guns in the data sheet. Going into the SS, recoil was a bit high and strength was just a tad low, so this was corrected by adding a 0.70m bulge in the SS.

Is the lack of deck armor a conscious decision or an oversight?

It was a conscious decision based on the lack of deck armor on the HMS Revolution, MN Marseillaise, and MN Tonnerre designs by Hood and Brock.

I am not familiar with the doctrine behind such but since both deigned to do away with deck armor in their designs, I followed.

The HMS Revolution is a combination of fast destroyer hull with the consequent speed and agility and cheapness of construction, with the firepower offered by the automatic gun to challenge a CL in combination with other similar ships and larger DLs. In effect the Revolution is an amalgamation of the larger DD and the smaller CL.
Your design is more of a classical CL and perhaps might benefit from more armour.

Marseillaise has a 60mm deck, which is about the lower end of my standard for CLs and CAs.

Tonnerre is thought of as an overgunned destroyer, so not a CL either.

He probably meant the other one, the Inflexible.

Alright then, I've increased tonnage by 1,200t for a slightly thicker belt and 50mm deck armor.

Edit: Just noticed the report got cut off at the top. Fixed.
