Beijing Newspaper Q3/1943 - Chinese news and events - July / August / September

early July - Aboard of the EURASIA-Catapultship MS Dalingshan - somewhere in the Pacifica-Territory

Captain Yang Xiong stood on the bridge wing and looked with his binoculars on the horizon. "Hopefully, the planes can find our netshell in this big ocean." he said to his second officer.

"Maybe we should raise a signal balloon, so they can see us already from far away.", the officer replied.

"I do not think that is necessary." Xiong said, when he heard the hum of aircraft engines.

"Ship ready for refueling of the flight boat !!" Captain Xiong commanded as he recognized the silhouette of a flighboat, which slowly sank down out of the clouds and took the direction to his ship to finish his flight. The twelve-pointed stars on the wings shone in the rising sun.

OOC - for the moment - just where is the catapult ship Dalingshan when this activity takes place? And when does this take place?

Not guilty, Sir.

That Sino-SAE-Cooperation exists longer than your little conflict does. No surprise results see the light of day at some time...

23th July 1943
The relations between the Chinese Empire and South Africa experienced another boom. The two nations have agreed on a new business. China buys the plans and the license for the construction of a river gunboat.
With this boat, the ships will be checked on the large Chinese rivers. It is a very modern design, which is equipped with radar. Through this design, the radar know-how and handling in China will be further developed. For this reason, the equipment is manufactured in China, but the training of the corresponding radars is supported by south african radar technician .

[OOC: For clarification please note the part about radar "manufactured in China" should be understood as propaganda. In fact those radar sets are manufactured in the SAE and send in pre-assembled parts before final assembly and installation happens in China by SAE experts once the Chinese yards have a hull ready for equipment phase. Meanwhile Chinese workers and operators are trained until they can perform final assembly and installation on their own - under SAE expert supervision - and operate the sets.]

27th July 1943 - Shantou harbour - late at night
The harbor area has been cordoned off especially for the ships. They steered the freighter to the quay wall and large cranes immediately began to unload the ships. Tank after tank, the cranes lifted ashore. Like Taxis the transporters standing in a long row, ready to carry away the tanks. When they were loaded, they drove one after another to the collection point at the goods station of the port. The whole thing took more time than expected when the first freight train was set in motion to bring its cargo to the north.

28th July 1943 - airfield near Shantou
The labeling of the new aircraft were delayed. The 5 Do-17s and 20 Fw-187s, which were unloaded from the ships, had been brought as quickly as possible to an airfield near the harbor. But all this takes time. Meanwhile the crews of the aircraft arrived. The general shrugged his shoulders. No plan was perfect. But the aircrafts were at least a small gain. The whine of the engines tore him from his thoughts. The propeller of a Do-17 began to turn. An officer walked up to him.

"Mr. General, with your permission, we will now conduct an unarmed test flight." said the man in the foreign uniform.

"All right Captain. When are the other aircrafts ready ?"

"I think in two hours."

"Well done - Captain."

A minute later the aircraft rolled to the start and took off .....

1st August 1943 - Hanoi, Local Dieuxeme Bureau HQ

"It's confirmed, Colonel Motte," Captain Despres announced, opening his file folder.

Colonel Motte looked grave. "Go on, Captain."

"One of our agents was able to get the serial numbers off three of the tanks unloaded a few days ago in Shantou. They fall within the range of serial numbers of tanks sold by Atlantis to Mexico. And the camouflage matches that of the Mexican Army."

"And the aircraft?"

"We're still waiting for that to be confirmed."

"All this does fit in with what we know of the Mexicans," Colonel Motte said. "They sailed a significant portion of their scrapyard fleet to escort the merchants to China. Still, it's nice to have some confirmation..."

OOC Based on the departure and arrival times of the Mexican ships to Acapulco, an observer will have deduced that they went nowhere near China or if they did they somehow managed to cruise at over 30kts over the whole trip.

Sorry, I fear you've mistaken me for someone significantly more gullible.

The Mexican ships left port at the end of June, and they're being unloaded in Shantou by the end of July. They can make the distance between Acapulco and Shantou at a speed of twelve knots.

Sorry I should have been more clear, the Mexican warships could not have. The warships will be spotted back in Acapulco about the same time (end of July).

Nothing to that effect has ever been posted, and I never said the Mexican escorts went all the way to Shantou anyway... *Shrugs*

4th August 1943 - Langley Virginia, CIA HQ

"The Frogs have some info that might be interesting to you Director, it seems the Mexicans have been selling old junk to the Chinese, " Dulles said as he brought the missive in from Agent Caviar.

The Director turned from the window and fixed his stare on his assistant. "Interesting, so the Mexicans are selling junk to the Chinese. It is still contraband junk, and it confirms what Agent Taco has told us about Mexican tanks going missing. Have we heard anything from the Canary's (1) people yet? Or the Sisters? (2)

"Nothing definite Director, I expect they found out through the usual channels though. Red flags did start to go up after all when the Mexicans escorted a couple of merchants halfway across the Pacific. Who escorts merchants unless you have something to hide. And then has the Chinese escort them the rest of the way? At least the half-dutchies (3) are doing things half-decent and making their shipments look innocent." Allan Dulles replied.

"Well, lets let the Big Cheese and the usual people know, and see how things unravel from there."
