Well I might build two of these, or bump them forward to 1943, or I might build more Princess Royals or a new CA class with 9.2in guns. Myself I feel these are still too expensive. But with the numbers of 11in armed "cruisers" roaming around those waters its only a matter of time before the RN, RAN and Dutch navies start responding with similar ships. Old CAs might not have a decisive edge and while an Admiral would be a spectacular sight its a little wasteful.

11" armed Cruisers, eh?
*prepares design for 11" armed battleships* :)

Australia would prefer something smaller but more numerous, together with more 9.2" cruisers, Japan just has too many cruisers...

I disagree. Australia has a significantly higher cruisers per factory ratio than Japan so in my eyes, I do not have enough cruisers. I need more. Lots more!! :D

Both of you are just looking for an excuse to do what you want anyway. :P So there!

Looking back at pure CA's I've taken the Iron Duke, put the new Canadian 7.5in auto in and scaled the ship down a little. Still big and expensive but it has some dakka effect. Also it is much faster than the PR and ID Classes.

Looking at the monitor fleet the obsolence is pretty clear. Gorgon was laid down in 1913 and belongs to a different era. General Crawford and Sir John Moore are both 1915 ships but are armed with turrets from the Majestic class battleships and date from 1894! Rebuilding these ships with modern guns and engines would be a waste of resources so all three will be replaced.

The DNC was aksed to come up with a new design and he came up with a modified General Class gunboat design. The hull is much fatter and there are several changes;
The main 9.2in guns now have 200 rpg
4in twins replaced by 4.5in twins
2pdr qauds and HMG mounts replaced by four twin 2pdr L/70 mounts
Belt is 0.5in thicker and 2ft higher
Machinery has been replaced with a new 4x 1000hp diesel layout
Speed is now 4kts faster

Two ships have been authorised for construction in 1942.

Somewhat "odd" little ships.
Which means, these get my seal of approval.
