With the sale of the Battlecruisers Kypris and Makedonia to Atlantis the RHN finds itself lacking in intermediate ships. With the 2 Lysandros class BBs joining the Megas Alexandros and the 2 Salamis class BBs I have 2 27kt 14" BBs, 1 28kt 14" BB, and 2 30kt 16" BBs. Next down are the 2 "Large" Cruisers, both around 16,000t but only armed with 6" guns. Then there are the 2 Great War era Helle class CAs with their 8" guns, but they're old even after being rebuilt. I feel there is a gap between the Battleships and the CLs (including the Konstantinoupolis').

What would the recommendation of the peanut gallery as to something to fill that gap? A ~17-18k CA w/ 8" guns? Something larger? Perhaps some new built BCs with either 12 or 14" guns? Any input would be appreciated.

Depends on the role you foresee for the vessels in question - raider, counter-raider, or scout for the battle line. Or something else.

I could see something like a pocket battleship - say six or so 12-14 inch guns with a 35 knot turn of speed - if you wanted a commerce raider. If you wanted something to screen the larger units of your fleet, maybe a larger heavy cruiser of about 18,000 tons with a speed of 33 knots armed with 9.2 inch guns.

Ship has slow, easy roll, a good, steady gun platform

Good seaboat, rides out heavy weather easily

6in gunfire might be superior than 8in or larger against most cruiser targets.

If 2 CAs with 8in or 9.2in (Britain wouldn't object to selling some 9.2in guns if Canada doesn't object) could be squeezed into the programme they would help bridge the gap with perhaps a qaurtet of E-140As.

Smaller and faster. Sacrifices armor and range.

But D-240A is 300t smaller than D-140B (15,000 vs 15,304)

Personally I'm leaning towards the E-240B. They're all around the same firepower/AA, but it's the smallest (read cheapest) and fastest. Armor is adequate, if not imposing.
