Bharati Embassy, London, Great Britain, 0:733hrs, December 13th 1939

The new Ambassador, Patel M. Desai, took official charge of the embassy the day before by presenting his credentials to the British government. He noticed the cold reception he received but that was understandable. The British-Bharati relationship has taken a path for the worse since September, Patel admitting privately that it was his government's fault.

But how to fix them? was Patel's thought while trying to get comfortable in his new office. He knew of Bharati and Japanese ships tailing ships together in the Pacific, but the why of the sudden cooperation also eluded him. The first thing he needed to find out was this was happening. As such he send a encrypted message home with that exact question.

Naples, Italy, 09:27hrs, December 21st 1939

The Shah Jahan arrived the port city of Naples the day before but a group of men on the ship were not members of the BNS. After getting passage in the Shah Jahan in Great Britain these men disembarked from the ship and met with Italian diplomatic service personel in a resort on the outskirst of the city. The meeting was described later on my one the men present as "better than expected." The men were invited to stay for a couple of extra days to continue discussions after Italians admitted "they see eye to eye in certain issues."

Going home via Suez?

Yes. There is any problem I need to know? As long as I know no hostility is occuring between India and Great Britain. Also your large military exercise in December have to be already on full gear by the time Shah Jahan is going home so a Indian response have to be already in the books for a while.

The government of Atlantis is concerned that an Indian oil tanker which should be in good working order somehow developed a hull breach off of our shores. The government of Atlantis believes the Indian's have been highly neglegant in their duty's of inspecting their ships material condition. As a result we must bar any Indian built, owned, operated, leased, or flagged merchant ships with cargoes capable of major contamination from our ports and request that other nations do the same until they can be inspected by a neutral third-party classification society.

Additionally, we wish to set up a conference of international classification societies to request international cooperation in meeting survey standards.

The Yugoslav Government expresses its concern and supports the call for a conference of classification societies; it will conform to and comply with any new rules and regulations issued by the world's classification societies.

(NB - Yugoslavia normally relies on Lloyds for classification)

BNS Army Headquarters, Hyderabad, December 22nd 1939

Excerpts of conversation between members of the Bharati General Staff:

"Are preparations right on schedule?"

"We are slight behind schedule but we have time to catch up. They are unaware of our intent and their eyes are now interested further to the East."

"Good. Good. Keep me informed in regard to this. let discuss now how we are are going to corner and kill a dog.'

Suez is fine with me, just checking.

Would you mind if a couple of destroyers escort you for safety until you get out of the Red Sea? Just as friendly company really rather than any sinister intent. There's a lot of shipping going too and fro and we wouldn't like any accidents (read: Military Traffic).

No problem. Is understandable and we would not mind the escort.

The meeting went better than expected but still too many sticking points exist that precludes any cooperation between our nations. The Italians are worried about our intentions in the Middle East and, a surprise to us, the East Africa Republic. We explained we have no designs in that region (1)and that seems to aliviate some of their concerns but they indicated only time will tell. Also they stated their previous commitments makes impossible any cooperation in the Middle East. However, we saw eye to eye in certain issues that previous commitments by both our nations are not in conflict with. While too early to reach a definate conclusion low level conversations between our diplomatic staff in Rome and the Italian Foreign Office will continue.
