Youtube Channel Recommendation

Not a Youtube video, but I watched Midway over the weekend. It is definitely better than the 1970's Midway but not at the level of Tora! Tora! Tora! There were some nice touches like the Japanese commenting on the poor glide bombing technique of the Marine SBD squadrons and the Devastator pilot who saw the whole battle while hiding under his seat cushion. But there was also too much focus on the pilots on the Enterprise especially with personal "drama" fillers, and some errors like more than 4 B...

ShinRa might be interested, it is an Australian design after all and I think her half-sisters are still in Australian service.

And now for something entirely different...

Ive always had a soft spot for the Thonburis, lots of firepower in a small package. The US Marines could certainly use a modern version of them.

French News, 1949

I was just pointing out that back in the day there was no love between Australia and the French-German Alliance. There was even a diplomatic incident after a German overflight of Rabaul. That's why Australia left SEAR in the first place, they had no intentions of fighting in a French war. I don't know what ShinRa's plans or intentions are, but I would assume that the diplomatic incident and Australia leaving SEAR are still relatively recent to at least give the French something to think about.

I find it interesting that the Australians have been completely ignored. They have no love for either side, but they can be a very big wildcard right next door to the French islands.

There where miscommunication and misinterpretations on both sides and I will admit I did respond more harshly than I should have. But it is untrue that I made no attempts to compromise since I did specifically make a thread just to attempt to find a solution that everyone could live with. That said, its not something I want to get into. My point being and maybe I was seeing things differently, was that the main issue was not "borrowing" other people's aircraft (which almost everyone did to some ...

As someone who was around for a long time then took a long break, I feel like I can add some context. Did real life play it part? It sure did but it was not the real driver behind my decision to leave. I'll be blunt about it, WW took what felt to be a directional shift. At one point WW embraced quirky, interesting, fun but realistic things. Walter gave us the casino carrier, Swampy gave us the cigar-smoking Filipinos, heck we even have Atlantis around. But then in a world that had Atlantis and F...

What would you define as ahistorical? By definition wouldn't everything be ahistorical? Say the point of departure is a victorious CSA in 1864, would that be considered ahistorical?

I would prefer an early 1800's departure date, I feel that would be the best compromise between those than want to stay as historical as possible and those than want some ahistorical countries. There's plenty of major world events in the late 1700's and early 1800's that could easily be tweaked to cause the departure and it provides a chance to take out the 800 lb gorilla in the room in the USA. By 1870 it would take something drastic to alter the course of the USA becoming an unchallengable wor...

Quoted Really? How about gaining experience in ship design? This is supposed to be naval sim with a specific set of design rules. When I asked to join the game it was strongly suggested to me that I learn how to sim before taking over my first country, Yugoslavia. Will Wesworld 2.0 continue to sim vessels or will we just hand wave things into existence? I'm pretty sure we are all fairly competent with SpringSharp and anyone new has plenty of time to gain experience. Quoted And for my own prefer...

That's exactly why we should be having these discussions, so that everyone can come to a consensus. At this stage with 6 quarters left, there is no point in taking over an NPC, but it is the time to start discussing what comes next.

Quoted I trust you will forgive me if I do not look upon Navalism as a good example of how to structure a game. It has gone through too many iterations and restarts. True, but I think that's what makes it a great case study, lots of different examples of what to do and what not to do.

Just going off of Navalism, it might take a year for the setup process. While it is quite too early to begin "picking nations", I'd argue its never too early to discuss the next iteration of WW, I'd even say the earlier the better. But there is no harm in throwing out nation ideas, see what everyone is thinking/has in mind. Personally (as everyone probably already knows) I would love to play a Greater Mexico, but lots of other interesting options as well, Siamese Empire? Modern Israeli Empire (i...

As long as everyone is around for the setup period it could just be as simple as everyone putting forward their wishlist, then negotiating any overlapping claims. Once the borders are set it would be a matter of working backwards from each country to figure out history and a suitable point of departure. A good recent example is the latest iteration of Navalism: https://www.navalism.org/index.php/topic,7000.0.html

Quoted Because Hood and I went to some significant efforts a few years ago to give the Brazilians a decent force of good, modern, modernizable destroyers, and I don't want to see people shit on our efforts by selling their secondhand junk to clutter up the ranks. I don't care so much about Mexico, since they've already got a logistician's nightmare of a fleet / zoo. I do remember trying to figure out a scrapping/refit schedule was quite challenging to say the least... To be fair half of Mexico'...

Quoted from "BruceDuncan" Quoted from "Hood" A couple of years ago Argentina might have gone for these, but I'm maxed out with destroyers now. If only our Mexican scrap dealers were still in operation! Yes. I wish Foxy were still with us; he kept us hopping. I would have definitely bought the Teniente Vazquez, they are still very new.

Don't forget the McDonnell XF-88 (1948 ) and Lockheed XF-90 (1949). A long time ago my plans had Mexico eventually developing a swept wing jet interceptor with US (and British and Japanese) jet engines. That could have been an additional avenue for the US to have developed swept wing technology in either a quid-pro-quo or a joint-development effort. If you guys want I could put something together for US jet aircraft developments for this time period based on WW changes (no Seversky, no WWII, dif...
