I was just pointing out that back in the day there was no love between Australia and the French-German Alliance. There was even a diplomatic incident after a German overflight of Rabaul. That's why Australia left SEAR in the first place, they had no intentions of fighting in a French war. I don't know what ShinRa's plans or intentions are, but I would assume that the diplomatic incident and Australia leaving SEAR are still relatively recent to at least give the French something to think about.
I find it interesting that the Australians have been completely ignored. They have no love for either side, but they can be a very big wildcard right next door to the French islands.

What would you define as ahistorical? By definition wouldn't everything be ahistorical? Say the point of departure is a victorious CSA in 1864, would that be considered ahistorical?
I would prefer an early 1800's departure date, I feel that would be the best compromise between those than want to stay as historical as possible and those than want some ahistorical countries. There's plenty of major world events in the late 1700's and early 1800's that could easily be tweaked to cause the departure and it provides a chance to take out the 800 lb gorilla in the room in the USA. Just going off of Navalism, it might take a year for the setup process. While it is quite too early to begin "picking nations", I'd argue its never too early to discuss the next iteration of WW, I'd even say the earlier the better. As long as everyone is around for the setup period it could just be as simple as everyone putting forward their wishlist, then negotiating any overlapping claims. Once the borders are set it would be a matter of working backwards from each country to figure out history and a suitable point of departure. Don't forget the McDonnell XF-88 (1948 ) and Lockheed XF-90 (1949). A long time ago my plans had Mexico eventually developing a swept wing jet interceptor with US (and British and Japanese) jet engines. That could have been an additional avenue for the US to have developed swept wing technology in either a quid-pro-quo or a joint-development effort.
