The 105/25 gives a big HE shell. It's not that great against tanks having poor hit probability at long range due to the low velocity, but most targets aren't going to be tanks. Much better against anti-tank guns and infantry. The 105/25 penetrates 89mm at short range so it's useful enough. A HE shell might disable most tanks as well.
