Torpedo Vessels

part of the reason for my unorthodox design methodology is intent. I am not designing ships with the primary intent of creating solutions to Brazils problems, that is a context that I use for my true intent, though I am conscious of requirements. my primary intent is to build skills in ship design. this favors rapid development and refinement. the appropriate application of torpedo belts is more important than refined stabilities and trims on my vessels (most of which are left at 50.) If I were ...

Torpedo Vessels

* Note on design. Torpedoes can be deadly weapons but used by a skilled crew at night their effect is devastating. the primary issue with night fighting is determining the location of enemy vessels. I have begun to toy with the idea of implementing Infra red goggles on these ships. the nation with the most experience in infra red technology is, I believe, Germany. as such any procurement will have to meet with approval from the german government. I intend to train night watchmen in infra red det...

Torpedo Vessels

The B class is a much lighter vessel than the A class despite filling the same role. it does this by being both 1/2 knt slower and 200 nmi shorter in range, while also having a reduced salvo of 12 torpedoes in 3 quad mounts. the vessel is about 2/3 the displacement, however, allowing for a much greater torpedo armament per ton displaced. again I note that I assume torpedoes are included in ship mass. otherwise I need to due some research on torpedo weight. B-1, Empire of Brazil Torpedo Frigate l...

Torpedo Vessels

Hello. I decided to post some of my work on torpedo armed vessels here. I have designed a torpedo frigate in the 1200 tn range. it mounts 4 quad mounts on a 300 ft beam. this is made possible by neglecting other armament. this ship is not intended to operate alone, but instead to augment the torpedo armament of a destroyer squadron. night attacks are excellent scenarios for this vessel. I am, however, apprehensive about the 30 tn miscellaneous. I won't need complex fire control, because I lack n...

BTW. by modern standards Imperial IS a pocket battleship. just one of the consequences of retaining a pre WW1 super-dreadnaught past the second world war.

I'm calling it on this one. the British Royal Navy wins RN - 1 Pocket Capital Ships - 0 for a fleet of pocket battlecruisers you could buy enough submarines to sink the entire enemy merchant marine.

I like the floatplane on the B1. I agree that it can make the submarine much bigger than it needs to be, and so I wouldn't use a floatplane on most of my submarines, but I think it provides an interesting niche capability, especially for coordinating oceanic operations, which I consider to be important.

I agree with what your saying. I have designed my very first submarine in response. it is loosely based off of the japanese B-1, though it is slightly smaller. It carries a single floatplane. This is intended to increase coverage while on operations in the Atlantic gap. additionally submarines can be tasked with providing reconnaissance of enemy bases. the aircraft has a radio and can rendezvous with friendly forces and report enemy activity if necessary. or, because of the lack of deck armor, the SAE could drop 20lb bombs on the ship using a flight of dive bombers off an escort carrier and sink the least efficient ship in the Brazilian navy.

Commerce Raider

Hello again. I decided to try my hand at designing a light commerce raider. the sustained speed requirement is less than my usual, as I do not see this ship acting with the fleet. she has 400 tons miscellaneous 50 for electronics and a depth charge rack. that can be used for extra fuel or plunder. (I'm only thinking very expensive items here as 350 tons is not enough to ship bulk cargo. T-100, Empire of Brazil Comerce Raider laid down 1944 Displacement: 1,908 t light; 2,011 t standard; 2,300 t n...

Brazillian Battleship Imperial rebuild as Carrier

guys you're missing the most important thing. I PUT 15in GUNS ON A CRUISER!!! Brazil can FINALLY defeat it's most nefarious enemy.... MOUNTAINS! sitting their with their peaks showing off how much taller they are, well we can fix that! on a more serious note I just thought t would be fun to try and see what the smallest ship that could mount the 15in guns be. it would take 5 years to produce 8 of these (which is about as many as can be supplied with old R class turrets) If I was seriously sugges...

The more turrets the more options I am really just wondering at this point. without a hull or engines I don't have a ship. I suppose I could use the guns as a shore battery.

well I could always build a Kitakami style torpedo cruiser. doubt the South Africans wold like that. as for the picture. I need to set up an account on shipbucket or someplace. but it does work, as long as I only use a single large funnel behind the bridge. I have created a simple png designed to show the layout, and also to help determine if everything fits on the hullspace. It is extremely low quality but may be useful in determining whether or not the design is valid.

About the Turret

Hello. I thought I would share this website that I found. It is about he components of an 8in gun turret. I thought the diagrams were especially useful and provided unique insight into naval architecture. It is from a manual dating back to ww2 modified to take advantage of web formatting. http://www.hnsa.org/doc/cagun/part1.htm
