Yugoslav News and Events 1949

Ziarul Financiar (Bucharest), Monday, 19 September 1949 The Ministry of War has confirmed that three examples of the Obuzier autopropulsat Oa48 are to be supplied to the Royal Yugoslav Army for evaluation; two will be delivered without armament, to permit the test fitting of the Yugoslav M40 87mm gun howitzer in place of the standard 105mm Skoda m40/43 howitzer as equips our own forces. Should the tests prove successful, it is expected that a number of vehicles will be supplied direct to Yugosla...

Here, alongside the instructional units of Angriffflieger Waffenschule 3 Nowotny could set the final edge on his pilots and aircrew before they deployed on their ship. The Westfalen was due to complete its operational training in a week’s time, and in five Marinefliegergrupp...

Admiralty House, Port of Spain, Trinidad, Saturday, 10 September 1949 Admiral Momroios had returned to the plot that showed the overall progress of Exercise Callicles II, and he had to admit that Rollmann was doing a very good job of leading “Blue Fleet” on a merry chase. The previous evening the German cruisers Nürnberg and Leipzig had appeared off Invaders Bay and simulated a bombardment of Admiralty House itself, while Falkeon and his task force had been kept busy chasing after the Chilean de...

Quoted from "Brockpaine" Quoted from "BruceDuncan" You have the better of me. What previous Ollanta? The Ollanta was built in 1930, I believe. But it's just now entering service...? It is re-entering service. I have presumed that during the period between her original entry into service and the present point in game time, she fell out of service (perhaps due to hostilities? I do not know how that part of the Andean War might have worked out in detail) and required reconditioning, which has been...

Quoted from "Brockpaine" Quoted from "BruceDuncan" The Peruvian Times (Lima), 26 September 1949 The steamer Ollanta made her maiden round-trip voyage across Lake Titicaca yesterday to inaugurate a daily service between the port of Puno and the Bolivian port of Guaqui. Passenger service on the lake has been disrupted for many years, and its re-establishment is seen as a great step forward in the development of the entire region. What did you do with the previous Ollanta? ?( You have the better o...

Greece competition for a new rifle

An option for Greece to consider. The German Heer adopted the Selbstlade Gewehr G5, a licensed version of the Kazanlak SK-42, in 8mm Mauser. With the adoption of the 7.92x45mm cartridge the older G5s that will be retained in service are being rechambered for the new cartridge. This information has been shared with both Kazanlak and SIG who would be in a position to provide similar new-build weapons to Greece, if desired. Or, Greece could consider the G-11 rifle that has been adopted by the Krieg...

New Designs and Refits of the Greek Fleet

The only questionable element that I can see is: Quoted 16 - 4,00" / 102 mm guns (6 mounts), 32,00lbs / 14,51kg shells, 1949 Model Dual purpose guns in deck mounts with hoists on side, evenly spread Sixteen guns split between six gun mounts suggests that some of the guns would be in triple mounts. For AA guns, that is unusual. Should then not all be in twin mounts?

Quoted from "Brockpaine" Quoted from "BruceDuncan" The Philippine Air Force would request the opportunity to evaluate the design to potentially replace its current Coati inventory. Would be happy to oblige. A spare aircraft can be crated up and shipped to the Philippines by October or so. Excellent. Will PM with further details.

Greece competition for a new rifle

From the little I know of the FAL I would tend to agree with your analysis. The FAL chambered for the 7.65mm Belgian cartridge would kick as much or more than the 7.62mm NATO, and chambering it for 8mm Mauser would definitely prevent the rifle from being fired accurately in anything like a select-fire mode. The 7.92x45 Mauser cartridge might work, but I'm no expert. For an example of the issues, take a look at this video on shooting the Soviet AVS36, here

Fast Bomber Replacement Program The requirements contained in the RFP are certainly ambitious, and nothing in the Luftwaffe inventory comes close to meeting the requirements as stated - (4,000 km range?) though the Junkers Ju322 would come close. However, the German air attache would point out that the Arado 234 is in full scale production and deliveries could commence immediately upon signature of contract. Attack Aircraft Replacement Program A suggestion would be Arado Ar334 which not only has...

A Spectre Resurgent

München, Germany, Sunday, 18 September 1949 Oktoberfest was in full swing, and the Theresienwiese was thronged with devotees of Bavaria’s potent beverage. No one paid any attention to the man with the goatee as he sat quietly at a small table-for-two, a stein of beer before him. Kronsteen was waiting patiently for the contact he expected momentarily. He used the time to consider the options before him. The firm of Giesecke & Devrient was the source of specialty banknote paper for many nations ac...

A Spectre Resurgent

Lugano, Switzerland, Thursday, 15 September 1949 It had taken a substantial investment in time and money for Ernst Blofeld to complete the transfer of his operations from Germany to Switzerland, and to staff them with operatives having the skills he desired and whom he could trust, or control. He had gathered them here at his headquarters to review, as good businessmen would, the results of their activities. Gathered about him at the conference table were a diverse group of men – some older than...
