Talons 1948?

Is there interest in a possible revival of the Talons event? If so, should it be much as before; e.g. national teams, mix of endurance, flying proficiency and combat activities or should it focus on certain aspects? There would probably be piston and jet classes, also a twin-engine piston class. Perhaps the scope for larger teams is there to make things more cost effective and allow more types to be sent. An event, if it goes ahead, would be run in Summer 1948 (for the south!!) so November/Decem...

A Conspiracy at the Barley Row Downing Street Atlee was ambivalent towards the intelligence services. As a Labour Party member he knew too well its members had been closely watched by MI5 and that it had been a tool used to combat the rise of socialism. On the other hand, he saw the potential it offered in protecting the state and the nation. More than any other previous Prime Minister he had striven to create a true Whitehall committee atmosphere to organise and direct the intelligence services...

A Spectre Rising

Room 39, The Admiralty, Whitehall, London, Monday 3rd August, 1948 Ian Fleming had been undecided for some time about leaving the Senior Service. He sometimes chafed at the inactivity and the fact he had been personal assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence for almost eight years. The latest, and newest incumbent of that post was Vice-Admiral Eric Longley-Cook. He did enjoy the secretive world of intelligence however, and when a package was delivered by courier to his office that morning...

A Conspiracy at the Barley Row? The Old Antiques Shop The Police, with Grice in attendance, broke into Schrod’s antiques shop to gain entry to his rooms above. A thorough search was made. To the trained eye it was clear Schrod had cleared out in a haste. Some toiletries were missing from the bathroom, like his toothbrush and toothpaste. Some clothes had gone but most were still hanging in the wardrobe or tucked away in his drawers. There were some unwashed cutlery in the kitchen and some mouldy ...
