IMHO, the two operational doctrines you've outlined our mutually exclusive. Carrier screening duties demands heavy AAA and speed and endurance to keep up with carriers during flight ops as well as close on any incoming enemies. It also requires a main battery capable of defending against DDs. Fast is more important than heavy, as long as it's heavy enough. 6"/150mm is still heavy enough for DD defense, but 210mm/8.2" is too slow, even w/ RF guns to decisively hit fast moving DDs. Independent ope...
Just because a couple guys on the firing line think it sounds like a good idea doesn't mean they can convince anyone of importance that it IS a good idea, either. May take them 2yrs to get anything even close to workable to the point that the PTB actually agree to pursue it with any determination, then another 2yrs to get a working prototype, then a 1yr of testing and poof it's 1950 before they start actual production, and 1955 before they're actually in line service in any useful quantity.
I'd been enjoying this storyline tremendously, and am saddened that it has been over a month since an update. While I am in no way complaining, I more than realize how life can effect plans. I only wanted y'all to know how much I liked reading it, and wait with baited breath for its continuation.
Does the Fox II retain the dive brakes of the Spearfish? That's a pretty nasty little bugger. Stick a 2000lb in the bay and 2 1000lb on the wings for strategic hard targets, or stick 4 500lb in the bay and 2 500lb on the wings for tank killing, or go with the 4x20mm pod in the bay and the 2x40mm pods on the wings and go troop/troop carrier hunting. Nice.
I do not 'log out' when I leave the site. When I return to it later it does show new posts, but sometimes it shows older posts I've already read as if they are new. Like this thread, it showed it having new posts, but it does not. In fact, it took me to the 1st page when I clicked on the green arrow that is supposed to take you to the 1st new post since your last visit. Anyone else having similar issues?
OOC: I'd be happy to play along as the Greek player. The IC response, once something more 'concrete' as others have mentioned, is set, would be much more old school, Alt_Naval style Greek paranoia. Sounds fun.
Quoted from "The Rock Doctor" Quoted from "Sachmle" The Kingdom of Greece is ashamed of it's performance. As the originator of the Olympiad, we are shocked at the poor performance of our athletes. Discussions will begin immediately to institute a new, better, training program for prospective competitors for future games. We are especially saddened at our performance in the Greco-Roman wrestling. ...henceforth to be known only as "Roman Wrestling"? Apparently. Italy, Turkey, and Hungary all did ...

When did deck-edge elevators become 'normal'? I don't pay much attention to CV designs in general, so I could have missed something rather easily, but I was under the presumption that those were still 'out-there' a little in the timeline. I mean we've really not had the experience to see that you'd need them for simultaneous launch/recover operations (IIRC, no one even does launch/recover at the same time, or has even tried.) If I'm way off base, I blame my cold and the fact I've not had coffee ...
Now I can see it, and it's secret weapon...the 'shovel of death'. Now, if you fix your avatar we'd be all set.
Quoted Originally posted by snip Ya know, sometimes I would lose my head if it were not attached to my body. GromoBoy was kind enough to take on drawing the Triarii for me, I just left it in my inbox forever and didn't post it here. Thanks again Gromo! M34/44 Triarii Medium tank. Designed by Ansaldo. Much like your Avatar, it won't load the image for me.
Aren't a lot of IRL ships registered to Cyprus, which would in WW terms, be Greece?
Quoted Originally posted by BruceDuncan I presume that His Majesty's ships are still wet, and that the daily ration of watered rum is still available. If so, why the fascination with ale? Have you ever compared watered down rum to ale?
Quoted Originally posted by Brockpaine Also, the 120mm guns are in six mountings? Seems a bit odd - wouldn't it be better in four twins? Also, shouldn't they be DP, and wouldn't they be better suited in mount and hoist? Quoted 8 - 4.72" / 120 mm guns (6 mounts), 52.72lbs / 23.92kg shells, 1946 Model Quick firing guns in deck mounts on side, all amidships
Hope it's a good one Wes!
The Kingdom of Greece has no interest in the area in question, and therefore has no objections.
You COULD have diesel AND coal fired. Won't really effect the sim to much, and the IC story could be an emergency boiler that provides enough power to run at cruising speed incase you run out of fuel, or the diesel's are damaged somehow.
