The only thing I dont like about them is their turrent arrangement. I dont like mixed type turrents. Otherwise they look good.

They are mixed types yes but primarily to make them potent AA ships. The 5.1" weapons will make average AA weapons, hence the addition of 3.95 AA guns.

Their role, at least if still in Atlantean service would still primarily be independant DesDiv leaders to add firepower to the DesDiv but their AA capabilty gives them more flexibility. The ANS Champion, sole survivor of this type is converting along simliar lines, though more extensive due to her "one of" status.

I think he means singles and twins of one gun type together on one hull.

Plenty of ships with that disposition sailing the seas. My own Ares class CL's have twins and triples.

At either rate the singles will likely perform better than the twins anyway.
