Urk! [gasp] ...can't ...speak
w..sss has st-rang....le hold!

The Atlantis Mandate is hostage to Greek naval power just as the Dodecanese are for Italy. Atlantis would need Russian assistance to maintain a hold on the Dardanelles against a hostile Greece. What would make a hostile Greece? Hand the mandate to Turkey - and the Russians wouldn't like Atlantis handing Byzantium back to the Muslims either. Welcome to Balkan politics - enjoy your stay ; ) - you're stuck here mwahahahaha

Greece is pursuing a neutral line, maintaining good relations with Italy, Russia, Atlantis etc. while not taking sides - unless someone is going to bash the Turks.

Cheers,

PS. not that I've anything against the Turks, just playing the part.

It is a good thing that us members of SATSUMA need not worry about the area in question. (in other words: Good luck Atlantis)

How do you think Atlantis handles the rhetoric from Mussolini so calmly?

"The Atlantis Mandate is hostage to Greek naval power just as the Dodecanese are for Italy. Atlantis would need Russian assistance to maintain a hold on the Dardanelles against a hostile Greece."

Very true but I susspect Greece dosen't attack because it may find it self at war with the nation it attacks and Turkey as well, not very good for Greece!

Atlantis and Turkey vs Greece and Russia

Interesting matchup. ; )

Not sure how that would hapen, relations in the FAR alliance would have to sour considerably quick for Russia to attack its fellow FAR allie.

Perhaps Greece attacks the mandate, pushs the Atlantians out which in turn angers the Turks, hopping to get their territory back, then Russia sides with its FAR treaty allie and you have Atlantis, Turkey and Russia vs. Greece. Any alliance the Greeks could get to help out would in turn bring the French into the conflict.

Hardly worth the start of another great war for a mandate that could likely be gained peacefully, with at most a future conflict with the turks and outside intervention to broker a peace deal.

And there's not the slightest reason for that!

The Russian attitude towards the Atlantean Mandate is that we appreciate the Straits being in friendly hands, but that strategic constraint has been lifted by the deployment of most of Russia's naval power to the Northern Fleet. With that, Russia has good access to the World Ocean, and thus the strategic considerations that motivated the drive on the Straits have been relieved. So in Russia's opinion the Turks can have if back, eventually, with suitable guarantees of future good behavior, the exclusion of their influence in the Caucasus, and I'll think of a few more conditions in a minute ;)

Now, it would be nice to see the Hagia Sophia mosque become an Orthodox cathedral again... but that's hardly worth a major crisis in the opinion of Russia's present Socialist government.

Fair enough - but looking at the list for Pola I doubt this was the rational behind it. Sorry.

Nice idea for a storyline. :-)

Then perhaps we should work on that and see what it is that they need...

4xType 2 slips as a minimum for the Tegetthoff class. So reducing it to a type 2 port might be ok?

maybe 2 Drydocks?

Ersatz Monarch

You should include one Type Three slip. Ersatz Monarch, which was just about to be laid down at the outbreak of war, was to be 173.5 meters long. A Type 2 slip is 170 meters...

A more likely case could be;

Ethnic tensions between Muslim majority and Christian minority escalates - Atlantis is unable to maintain law and order.

Refugees begin to flow into Thrace bringing horror stories.

Greece complains to Atlantis

Atlantis - is occupied elsewhere - lets face it in Wesworld this could be quite plausible ; )

Atlantis cuts and runs by offering to hand over the Mandate to the Turks provided they can guarantee safety to Christian minority.

Greece finds this unacceptable - patrols the Dardanelles to block any Turkish move and moves troops to Eastern Thrace on the border of the Atlantis Mandate. The Turks also begin to move troops but will be unable to move troops across the Dardanelles into the Mandate due to Greek naval forces in the Narrows and Sea of Mamarra.

So what is the next move? - Russia, Atlantis and Turkey declare war on Greece?

Cheers,

Do I sense an evil plot brewing?

Nothing sinister, just pointing out that Greece wont wake up one day and just decide to invade the Mandate today for fun.

Atlantis is saddled with holding a Muslim majority against a Christian minority. Aslong as everything stays peaceful then there is no problem.

Some of the other senarios that could play out would be.....

Atlantis hands the mandate over to Italy.....improves relations with Italy but completely sours relations with Greece. Italy and Greece fight over the mandate and the Dodecanese. One of the less likely outcomes.

Atlantis hands the mandate over to Bulgaria, same results. Third Balkan war. Least likely senario.

Atlantis hands the Mandate over to Greece, relations improve slightly but relations with Turkey sour.
Third Balkan war errupts. Highly possible.

Atlantis declairs the Mandate a new country, called Byzantine. The country is recognized by the league of nations, relations with Greece and Turkey sour, Byzantine is annexed by Greece, Turkey declairs war.
Another real possibility.

If Atlantis decides to keep the mandate through thick and thin, who knows, Russia may somehow start pulling the strings. Russia may have already conquored Bulgaria, Romania and Moldova and decide its time it should claim the Mandate. Likely? Who knows with this one.

As I said, interesting situation.

most of these require a player for Turkey - any takers?

36

Friday, September 24th 2004, 8:28am

And ruin my story making potential? Turkey dosn't nessassarily require a player, anymore than Siam or Yemen. Peng used three non-players in a conflict quite nicely before his leave of absence.

37

Friday, September 24th 2004, 8:46am

point taken.

38

Friday, September 24th 2004, 8:27pm

If Turkey ever needs a player, Wes could handle it a la Admiral K and France/Russia.

39

Saturday, September 25th 2004, 5:44am

I suppose I could, I'm not sure others here would be fond of that though, so for now Turkey seems fine as a non-player nation.

Just to clarify, we have a concerted "non" on the infrastructure?
