Assorted Greek News - Q1-Q2 1927

Sorry, little pushed at the moment, energies elsewhere. I thought I'd put this out before it gets a little too stale.

Cheers,

The 100th anniversary of the Battle of Navarino will be celebrated by a Fleet gathering at Navarino Bay from October 6. Ships from Great Britain, France and Russia will attend a three day celebration of regattas and special events.

In other news, the date for the Anatolian Vote has been set for October 8. The Region was seized from the Ottoman Turks at the end of the Great War with the Greek victories at Inönü River and Sakarya, has been administered as a League of Nations Mandate since the 1923 Peace deal that saw Atlantis retain it's Mandate in Thrace. Italy retroceded it's zone to Turkey while the Doceanese Islands went to Greece in return for concessions in the Balkans. The conditions set for the Greek Mandate were that the area was subject to a plebiscite to join Greece or retrocede back to Turkey before the end of 1928. The area has been ethnically diverse for centuries but this has tipped in Greek favour in recent years with refugees fleeing the rest of Turkey in the wake of ethnic cleansing following the rise of Ataturk's Nationalists.

Greece follows Russian amphibious exercises with interest. We recently abandoned a naval landing exercise. Two fully loaded x-lighters collided leaving both badly damaged. The submarine transport Okeanos returning from Crete after transferring two subs, was called in to dock the damaged lighters and then transfer them to Pireaus for repairs.

The target ship Thermopylae was damaged (5%) by an underwater detonation - presumably a mine left over from the last war. While the TDS was not breached the blast disabled the ship and caused a list. The issue of completely losing power will be taken up with representatives of General Electric. The vibration damping shock mounts of the busbar system failed to dampen the force of the explosion. A subsequent short in the system took the turboelectric system off-line.

The new Indian Battleship Akbar and escorts visited Athens as part of an Indian Mediterranean Cruise. India has expressed interest in the 'E Type' building program of standard ships and several officers toured the Salamis shipyard where the Frigate Bellerophon is to be launched next week and the Romanian Destroyer Sborul is nearing completion. The Indian delegation was taken on a brief cruise on the Frigate Perseos that is just completeing her trials.

Good stuff. Glad to see I made the headlines.

I look forward to the Turkish/Atlantean takes on the plebiscite.

Looks like somebody will have to work on his minesweeper force....

Will we hear more about innovations regarding shock absorption?

Probably not. Turbo Electric was weighty for ships that became limited by treaty. Despite having advantages this episode has highlghted a vulnerability with the system that could be adjusted for if I was planning more TE ships.
