The Air Ministry announced that it had approved the sale, to Yugoslavia, of an additional quantity of twenty-four Hereford maritime strike and reconnaissance aircraft. The Ministry of Defence announced that it had approved several development programmes to be undertaken by undisclosed portions of the defence industry. A new 75mm divisional gun is to be developed to supplant the numerous elderly 75mm light guns presently in service; a light armoured reconnaissance vehicle is to be developed for the armoured cavalry; and preparatory work on a new attack and reconnaissance bomber for the Air Force was funded.

The State Locomotive Works delivered today the first of 100 LT.38 light tanks presently on order for the Army. While several hundred of these excellent vehicles have been obtained from Czechoslovakia, it is expected that henceforth requirements will be met from domestic production.

In a news conference held yesterday Minister of Education Marko Velebit announced that in the forthcoming year the government would expand its funding of scholarships for the technical and higher education of promising students abroad. Among others, 130 students will be sent to Czechoslovakia for advanced technical training in metallurgy and engineering; forty will be sent to university in Switzerland and fifteen to Hungary. It is hoped that arrangements can be expanded to other friendly nations.
