Q2/1947 Notable Ship Movements of the VMF Rossii
A general overview of the major exercises and operations being undertaken during Q2/1947 by the VMF Rossii.

OOC: I'm going start appending this as part of my sim reports rather than doing it in the news; look for it in the future.

Baltic Fleet
-- OG Gefest 1.2 (3rd Cruiser Squadron) under G. Abashvili conducts cruise of Baltic during May with port visits in Copenhagen, Danzig, and Karlskrona.
-- Exercise Novator: OG Gefest 1.1 (2nd, 10th Cruiser Squadrons) under V. Tributs conducts an intensive five-part exercise series during May and June, working with Admiral Lazarov Rynda. Exercise includes 32 surface ships (including MTBs), 8 submarines, and 270 aircraft.
-- Exercise Orlan: OG Gefest 1.1 under V. Tributs conducts international training in the central Baltic, Gulf of Riga, and Gulf of Finland in conjunction with Latvian Navy; Lithuanian officers participate as observers.
-- 9th Saaremaa Exercise: Baltic Fleet conducts amphibious assault, minelaying, and minesweeping exercises in the region of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. Eight amphibious landings are undertaken in conjunction with Russian Ground Forces paratroops. 160 surface ships (including MTBs), 400 aircraft, 6,500 Marines, and 5,000 paratroops participate in the exercise.

-- Operation Drovosek: Battleships assigned to 2nd Battle Squadron (OG Petr) under F. Oktyabrsky cruise from Murmansk to Sevastopol by way of Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Black Sea Fleet cruises to Bosphorus to rendezvous with OG Petr and conducts AA exercises on return voyage
-- OG Nika (6th Cruiser Squadron) under S. Gorshkov cruises Mediterranean for two months to show the flag and conduct warm-weather training, rendezvousing with OG Petr at Tangier in mid-May and returning. Port calls at Limasol, Beirut, Athens, Syracuse, Toulon, Naples, Bizerte, Oran, Tangier.
-- Vessels from the 1st Destroyer Flotilla and the 2nd Guardship Flotilla conduct port calls around the Black Sea, including but not limited to Odessa, Kherson, Feodosiya, Kerch, Mariupol, Taganrog, Rostov-on-Don, Novorissisk, Sokumi, Poti, and Batumi.
-- Large antisubmarine ship Kharkov visits Volgograd, Saratov, and Ulyanovsk (Don and Volga river cruise).

Northern Fleet
-- Exercise Viribus Unitas: OG Yunona (3rd Battle Squadron plus supporting elements) under G. Levchenko conducts joint maneuvers in northern Atlantic with German Fleet.
-- Exercise Almaz-1: OG Mars under N. Sergeyev conducts training in Barents and Norweigian Seas, operating as far west as Jan Mayen and as far south as 68N. Force includes six carriers, one battlecruiser, and four battleships.
-- Operation Berkut: OG Afina (parts of 7th Destroyer Flotilla and cruiser Sviatoslav) under L. Vladimirsky conducts cruise from Murmansk through North Sea for port calls at Bergen, Calais, and Brest, returning to Russia via Faroes-Iceland Gap during June.
-- Exercise Almaz-2: OG Merkuriy under A. Golovko conducts training in Barents and Norweigian Seas, operating as far as 43W and as far south as 55N. Force includes three carriers and four battlecruisers.
-- Guardships Razin and Mikula Selyaninovich on patrol in Norweigian and Barents Seas, taking weather readings and oceanographic observations near the edge of the polar icepack.
-- Exercise Almaz-3: OG Jove under L. Vladimirsky conducts intensive training in the Barents and Kara Seas in conjunction with the Northern Sea Route Heavy Icebreaker Group (three icebreakers).
-- Escort cruisers Varyag and Bayan cruise to North America, visiting New York, Norfolk, Guadeloupe, and Port-of-Spain prior to returning to Russia.
-- Exercise Almaz-4: OG Artemida under V. Alafuzov conducts amphibious exercises along the Barents coast operating between Kildin Island and Svyatoy Nos. Nine amphibious landings are staged. Exercise includes 30 ships, 80 aircraft, and 6,500 Marines.

-- Exercise Namibiya: 4th Destroyer Flotilla under P. Ustinov conducts training exercises in Bering Sea prior to making port calls in Kodiak and Juneau, USA.
-- Exercise Tunguska 1 - 7: Series of seven intensive antisubmarine exercises in Sea of Okhotsk, based variously out of Okha and Magadan, involving 102 surface vessels, 50 submarines, and 230 aircraft under I. Yumashev.
