These crews have smashed the defenders of Abai and the troops unprotected thought it wiser to join our side in the fight against evil. Now Abai is ours the population have come out to greet us with flowers and bread. These people have come out and given us shelter and food and welcome the fall of the regime. Rebel activity is now present in most SW regions of our nation. Abai will become our future base. The capture of the Department of Caazapa and the city of the same name is our next task to secure a foothold. The atrocities of Caacupe were committed not by the local rebel group but by the government’s troops trying to scare the population who do not fear us but rather want us to succeed. The armoured train on the Asuncion-Caacupe railway has been destroyed by bombing. A Caproni AP.1 bomber on a lone patrol over Caacupe saw the huge steam train. It consisted of two engines, an armoured carriage ahead and nine cargo cars. The pilot made a snap decision to attack and dived onto the target. Three 100kg bombs hit the armoured car and the two engines. They exploded in a cloud of steam and the ammunition also ignited. The whole train was completely destroyed as the ammo in the cargo cars caught fire and troops could be seen running for their lives, some on fire. The twisted wreckage has blocked the line and now it will finally be closed.
