Romanian Request for proposal

The Royal Romanian Air Force is interested in purchasing a number of naval dive bomber aircraft. The bombers would need to be able to reach speeds of around 250-275 mph, have a range of around 600 to 850 miles, and be able to carry a bomb of around 500lbs, as welll as two small bombs beneath the wings of around 100lbs. The defensive armament is entirely left up too the designers, although a minimum of 2 7.7mm is specified.

The Royal Romanian Air Force is also looking purchasing a number of torpedo bombers, with the need to reach speeds of 200 to 250 mph, have the same range as the above mentioned dive bomber, as well as the ability to carry a 1,000 lb torpedo. Defensive armament is left to the discretion of the designer, although a minimum of 2 7.7 mm is required.

On the torpedo bomber, is Rumania desiring a carrier-capable aircraft for this role as well?

[Not to mention, why would Rumania want a carrier????]

Mexico offers the following:

For Dive Bomber:

A-1 (TNCA Mapache) Ground Attack Plane

Power: Pratt & Witney 1000hp Twin Wasp

Armament: Two 7.62/0.3in machine guns, 1000lbs of bombs & rockets.

Size: Wingspan - 32ft
Length - 22ft
Wing area - 400sq ft

Weight: Empty - 3500lb
Max take-off - 4500lb

Performance: Max speed - 210mph
Ceiling - 21,500ft
Range - 500 miles
Climb - 2000ft per minute

Ground Attack development. Extra wing provides extra lift and strength. Armor provided for engine and pilot. 1x500lb max fuselage hardpoint. 2x250lb max underwing harpoints, 4x100lb max (rockets allowed) underwing harpoints. A version of this plane will be able to carry a pair of 1" MGs under the top wing. Bombload on this version will be reduced by 1/2.

While not exacly meeeting the Romanina requirements the Mapache is a flexible aircraft. Either armor or bombload can be reduced to meet range requirments. Defensive armament is not required . The plane is very cheap, easy to mantain, and can operate from virtually anywhere.

For Torpedo Bomber:

B-7 (TNCA Coyote) Light Bomber

Power: 2 x Curtiss 700hp Conqueror

Armament: Four 7.62/0.3in machine guns, 1,500 lbs of bombs

Size: Wingspan - 65ft
Length - 45ft
Wing area - 620sq ft

Weight: Empty - 11200lb
Max take-off - 5500lb

Performance: Max speed - 210mph
Ceiling - 20,400ft
Range - 500 miles

Again the plane can be modified to meet the requirments.

IN the wings... I wonder if there are any Romanian pilots around who would fly such a plane, knowing that one minor mistake will blow the wings off the plane. :D

Japanese manufacturers are currently looking at new torpedo bomber and dive bomber designs though no information is available at the moment.
In the mean time, Japan could offer the Mitsubishi G3M1, but it is probably not what Romania had in mind.

Given the entire Lithuanian thing, I have to ask *when* the Romanians are asking. If it's safely past the ruckus, the Atlantic Aircraft A-10A dive bomber may be suitable, and the Fokker T.VI torpedo plane as well.

Hey, if you can't manage folding wings technology, it's very easy to just blow them off to allow storage. Granted the second sortie might take a bit longer..

The planes are for land-based squadrons. However, I was looking at eventually (like 1940s) building a small carrier to provide some air cover to my fleet. The purpose of this proposal is to give Romania some striking power in the event of war with other Black Sea Nations (Russia or Turkey) to act as an"equalizer" of the fleets opposing the Romanian Navy by air power if necessary. The specs are for the historic Aichi Val dive bombers, as well as the historic Devastator torpedo bombers. When is around late 1936 to early 1937 for the beginning of deliveries, although this may be stretched into 1938 or 39 depending on the world situation, as well as other projects which have priority over this one.

For the dive bomber, Junkers can offer (in 1936) the Ju-87T naval dive bomber. While Rumania is only asking for a 500 pound bombload, plus wing bombs, the Ju-87T will be capable of carrying up to a 500 kg bomb on the centerline crutch, and, if maximum range is not required, additional 50 kg bombs can be carried under the wings. If a particularly heavy bomb is needed, and maximum range is not required, the rear gunner can be left at base and the aircraft can carry a single 1000 kg bomb on the centerline crutch. Junkers does not foresee any particular difficulty in adapting a mount for a 900 kg torpedo.

Alternatively, for the torpedo bomber, BFW can offer its new Bf-110 B-1 torpedo bomber, as adopted by the Luftwaffe. In Luftwaffe service, this aircraft already carries a 900 kg torpedo, so no adaptation work would be required.

Hmm I was wondering when the Germans would offer the Ju-87. Didn't know they'd converted the Bf110 to torpedo bomber. Just so everyone knows, im looking for around 2 squadrons of each (24 planes) not a big order, but then im not a big country. I shall leave it open to proposals until Friday.

The Bf-110 lost the long-range fighter competition to the Fw-187 in 1934, but the Luftwaffe thought it had potential as a light bomber so BFW converted it. It's currently entering service with the Luftwaffe, operating as a torpedo bomber.
