German News and Events, June 1942, Fifth Tranche

Elbinger Volksstimme, Thursday, 18 June 1942

It was announced today that the Allgemeine Ölhandelsgesellschaft of Berlin has formed a new subsidiary, Baltische Mineralölhandels und Tankanlagen that will construct here a large petroleum storage and terminal facility. It is expected that when complete the facility will employ more than five hundred permanent workers, providing a significant boost to the regional economy.

Chancellor Adenauer and Foreign Minister Bruning departed this evening for Paris, where they will meet with their French counterparts for discussions of the current political situation.


Rostocker Zeitung, Saturday, 20 June 1942

The transport ships Frundsberg and Schwartzenberg were declared fully operational today, having completed their post-conversion trials. It is expected that the two vessels will soon engage in amphibious exercises with troops of the Marinelandungsverband.

The German Defence Ministry has given approval to several aircraft manufacturers to consummate the sale of military training aircraft to China. The Bucker Flugzeugbau will supply the Chinese air arm with twenty-five examples of its Bu181 primary trainer, a further twenty-five aircraft in kit form to be assembled in China, and licensing of the Chinese Aircraft Industry Corporation Group for the manufacture of up to 150 additional aircraft. The Arado Company will supply the Chinese with twenty-five examples of its Ar96 advanced training aircraft, a further twenty-five aircraft in kit form to be assembled in China, and licensing of CAICG for the manufacture of up to an additional 150 aircraft. The Bayerischen Flugzeugwerke will supply the Chinese with twenty examples of its Bf108 training and liaison aircraft, a further twenty aircraft of this type in kit form for local assembly, and the licensing of CAICG for the manufacture of up to one hundred additional aircraft of the type. Deliveries are expected to commence in the autumn of this year, and conclude some time in 1943.

The announcement of the signing of the Grand Alliance Treaty in Paris has brought joy across Germany. It is seen as a sign of Germany’s final re-acceptance into the mainstream of European political activity, where once it was not welcomed. Most of the major political parties of the Reichstag, with the exception of the KPD, seem pleased with the treaty, and its ratification is expected to be dealt with quickly.

Minister of Economics Ludwig Erhard attended special ceremonies today at the opening of the Hydrierwerk Moosbierbaum synthetic oil facility. This latest extension of the chemical complex will produce more than seven thousand tonnes of special fuels per month, substantially strengthening the energy security of the nation.

Hard on the heels of the recent decision by the Irish Air Corps to place orders for twelve Blohm und Voss Bv146 transport aircraft, it is reported that the Defence Ministry is considering placing an order for such aircraft on behalf of the Luftwaffe. If ordered, it is expected that they would be used as training aircraft in the paratroop schools.
