simply adopt more complex gearing

Sounds expensive and not a 'simple' choice, glad I don't do things by money anymore.

Cheers

It sounds simple, but cutting gears that can rotate at a few thousand rpm and transmit 20,000hp is quite a job for the period technology. Today its just difficult, but look at RR's special Trent series turboshaft that has a reduction ratio of around 20:1, puts 120,000shp through it and yet it weighs a few hundred kgs and about a metre cube in size.

5 gun turrets? I'd have some doubts about whether they'd fit on that beam, and how long it would take to get the bugs out.

The armor package (except for the torpedo protection) seems on the light side for the size of the ship, and the short main belt suggests she might be in danger of having insufficient protected buoyancy. The use of 6" deck armor on the bow area might be more than necessary, some of that tonnage could go to lengthening the main belt or making it thicker.

15x16" guns? Are you trying to give the Turks an anxiety attack?!!

As one of Greece's neighbors, I have to wonder who they're planning to fight with that thing!

I reckon the Greeks are trying to be able to out gun Lepanto with 2 turrets, and then sink other BB's with the other one

A 5-gun turret? Are the guns in a common cradle? The only other option is the outer pairs are common and the middle barrel is independent.

And I agree, this turret will almost certainly be buggy and need a lot of workup!

One less gun but of a larger caliber, it would certainly surpass the Lepanto as the most powerfull battleship.

I agree, mostly a paper exercice at the moment. The turret is probably much bigger than Yamato's 18"x3 on the same beam and a relvoving weight grater than a Destroyer.

Well, if you can convince your enemies that you have already won then peace reigns. : )

If Greece built new battleships, they would probably be Megas Alexandros but with 4 twin 16" or 16.5". I'd rather use a shorter hull though.

Cheers,
