None really hod to the paper and the meaning of it as a whole anymore. Its all a joke now. They are killing time until the treaty ends in 1937 so they can go off an do some legal killing."
"We had hoped that Chile would join the CT one day and practice what they preach but unfortunately they are not inclined to do so. We suspect that the actions of several treaty signatory's have cemented Chile's veiw, which is most unfortunate".

October 2
(A late news peice in Atlantis due to the lack of Atlantean interests in the region, and untill the Brazilians expressed concern, posed no threat to Atlantis)

A recent Philippino outbreak is now quickly spreading in Asia and now has caused enough concern for at least one South American nation to express concern. "Brazil has concern reguarding ships being built by the Philippines, and that has us re-evaluating the possibility of the outbreak reaching Atlantean borders, particularily Musaeus (Venezuela). In addition France is already helping in efforts to eradicate the unknown plague now branded as 'El Derretir'." stated an Atlantean health official.

October 18

Today the Commander of the Navy Admiral Tobias Hysén has, at the Riksdag voiced his concerns over the behaviour of the Kingdom of Italy with regards to their tonnage allocations under the Celito Treaty, he had the following to say.

"Gentlemen, our nation and all the other nations who have signed up to and have to the best of their abilities abibed by the Celito Treaty have been hoodwinked by the Kingdom of Italy. By this I mean that, with the completion of 2 recent cruiser to Carrier conversions they are now at least 7000tons over their treaty limits. Both of those ships are in the range of 4000-5000 tons, which added to Morosini at 25000t or more and the 2 Aquila's at around 21000t, leaves them with Carriers totalling 77000tons, 7000tons over their allocated 70000tons. I recomend that we call for strong action to be taken in this case, so that an example may be made to other nations who might consider doing the same"

October 20, 1931

Geman Grand Admiral Raeder, commented on the current fuss over Italy's carrier plans. "Germany has had similar doubts about the legality, under the Cleito Treaty, of the Italian cruiser conversions that Admiral Haysen expressed, and those doubts were forwarded on to Atlantis some weeks ago.", he said. "The Foreign Ministry's lawyers were studying the Treaty for ways that they could be legal, and we simply didn't find that way. What Italy is planning, we simply don't know."

October 21,1931

Today at the Cleito treaty summit:

"The Kingdom of Nordmark wishes to call all the signatories of the Celito Treaty to a vote to veto the sale of a new build Carrier to the Ethiopian Navy.

The legallity of this vote is sighted in Section J article X.

The reason for the calling of this Vote is that the only reason for this purchase is the antagonism of the SAE and or India. We also view that the ship will be used alongside the Italian fleet as a way of cheating treaty limits, as surely if she wanted defend her coasts with aircover, Ethiopia would just invest in more airfields."

Vote results:

Durring the voting process the Japanese delegate was seen cursing as he pounded the button to his voting machine several times. In the end his initial vote was allowed to stand in light of the results still being overwhelmingly against the sale. After the vote the Nordish and Italian delegates were seen exchanging venomous glances at one another while a few other delegates voiced their concern over the initial vote for a variety of reasons. The Atlantean delegates declaired their own dismay over the complaints that the vote was farsical given other nations similar efforts to supply puppet states. "We find this complaint rather perplexing given the fact that this very clause was voted on by every nation present to stop such actions from taking place. The fact that the comparison is being made to actions prior to this clause taking effect, actions that in a sence created this clause, are now being used as a presedent for future actions."

October 22

October 27

The Libertad and Santisima Trinidad have arrived in Atlantis to escort the new Patagonia and Senor Castagone home. The fleet will set sail at five am tomorrow morning. The rendevous has attracted quite a few naval attache's and ship buffs alike due to the fact that an unusually high consentration of Atlantean ships have also returned home for varous reasons. The newest Atlantean aircraft carrier Alioth and her escorts have arrived after a lengthy tour along the west coast of the America's.

The trade delegation that sailed with the Argentine ships managed to succeed in drawing up an import duty reduction with the Atlantean government that benifits both country's.

October 28

Princess Amrita falls victim to the Philippino plague!

One of the first victims of El Derretir in Hyderabad is the six year old Princess Amrita . Both the Samraja and the Samraji are said to be distraught by their loss - and are also under close medical observation themselves as a result of it.

As the situation in the region deteriorates new cases of El Derretir are being reported in Imphal.

November 5

It has been announced that Nordmarks delegate to the Celito Treaty commission, has been found shot dead in Celito.

The man, who helped organise the vote against the expansionist Italian government selling an aircraft carrier to Etheopia, is suspected to have been a victim of vicious revenge attack.

November 8th

The Government has released more details about the brutal murder of our delegate to the Celito treaty commision. It is now almost certain that the murder was carried out on behalf of the Italian Government, and that the delegate was actually hacked to death using a form of axe called a fasces, and then shot through the chest.

The Delegate's assistant, who commented that they had always walked the same route too and from the meeting rooms of the commision, and that on the 29th, the area around the passageway where the delegate was latter found, was unusally busy. He has also stated that a number of rough, Italian speaking men had been hanging around outside the meeting rooms when they had left.

November 9

A statement from the Imperial Palace, India:

“It is with profound sorrow that the Government of India reports the passing of Shrinivas Canangasundrum, Samraja of Bharat and Warden of Asir, due to complications related to El Derretir. Samraji Prea has also contracted El Derretir and is currently under intense medical care. Princess Asha is at this time not showing symptoms of the disease but is being observed in seclusion.

“As the heir to the throne, Prince Brashkar will be sworn in as Samraja tomorrow. The ceremony will be closed to the public for health reasons, but will be broadcast over AWNR.”

The Atlantean Prime minister sent his personal condolences along with other prominent Atlantean officials.

November 10

Prince Brashkar took the throne today in a somber ceremony broadcast over AWNR and some foreign radio stations. Inheriting the throne from his deceased brother, his first words to the Indian population as Samraja were to promise a resolution to El Derretir.

"El Derretir is cutting across all parts of our society; it strikes at our rich and poor, our leaders and our workers, our elders and our children.

"Many of you will recall the horrors of the Iberian flu that savaged the world shortly after the Great War. Millions perished. There is a potential for El Derretir to be as bad, perhaps even worse - but we can avoid it. We must avoid it.

"In a sense, we should consider ourselves to be in a war against an invisible and silent enemy whose sole purpose to kill and multiply. Therefore, we must mobilize our nation to fight this enemy, by denying it the means to spread and to deliver mercy and aid to those that fall. We must identify how the disease spreads, seek cures and new treatments. We must isolate outbreaks and prevent it from spreading to those unafflicted by it - not just within our land, but without as well. We must work with our neighbours to ensure the safety of their populations, for we are only as safe as they are.

"To that end, I tell you now that I have no interest in continuing the past rivalries that have set this empire against others. What matters now is that those who govern, must govern well, and we must cooperate to ensure that El Derretir is eradicated."

November 12

Another attack by the Pirate Harlock against a Canadian liner in the Atlantic Ocean has prompted the navy to step up patrols in and around Atlantean waters.

November 18

Nordish police have raided several properties in karlskrona. The occupants of the properties, all Italians, who's work is closely related to that of the Italian Embassy, have all been arrested on charges of conspiracy to aid in the killing of our nations delegate to the Cleito Treaty commision in Cleito.

2 secretaries at our Embassy in Celito have also been arrested on suspiction of supplying information to the Italian Government and spy rings.
Simulaniously Atlantean Police arrested 3 persons of interest, but wouldn't comment on their nationality. "They are being interogated as we speak" said a Police spokesman. The investigation continues with co-operation from Nordish police and government officials. There is no word on Italian co-operation if any following allegations made against them.

November 19

Atlantean and Colombian officials have planned a meeting to discuss defence issues given the tentions in the region. The talks will begin in Febuary.

December 3rd

The Nordish Government has finally announced it's intentions following the brutal, Italian backed murder of it's delegate to the Cleito Treaty commision.

The Government requests an official apology from the Italian Government and that compensation be paid to the Family of the dead delegate. The Government has also called for sanctions to be placed upon the Italian Navy, the details of which are not yet know.
The Italian government replies;

"The suicide of said Nordmark official must be sad and troubling for his family, however we had nothing to do with this action. It was most probably the intense pressure on this diplomat which caused him to suffer mental breakdown and then to take his own life. The Italian government does not sanction state-led assassinations."

December 17, 1931

In a surprising move, the German government offered to cover Italian costs today. The offer was to bear the costs of removing part of the flight decks of the newly completed Italian light carriers, which as built bring Italy out of compliance with her Cleito Treaty obligations. Foreign Minister Stresseman commented, "Germany made this offer to attempt to keep the Treaty alive, as there have been rumors in diplomatic circles that countries may be willing to exit the Treaty over the matter. If one country leaves, where does it end? Most likely with the complete abolition of the Treaty regime and a return to the arms race that preceded the Great War. We hope Italy will accept the offer, but we will have to wait and see."

December 20, 1931

The government of Italy has rejected Germany's offer on the two light carriers, claiming that the temporary modifications installed are sufficient to make the ships legal under the terms of the Treaty.

Apart from the fact that they are rated as cruisers and not aircraft carriers. Aeroplanes cannot land on them.

Compared to much more visible and greater examples of flaunting the treaty elswhere you wonder why so much attention is focused on Italy.

I can't really see a Stirling-cycle engine being much use. The Earth is just too hot for heat engines to work efficiently.

Isn't naming an airline that flies to Columbia "Gran Canaria" kinda confusing?

Its not a case of highlighting Italy's actions alone but the actions as a whole by the other CT members. If you check other nations news these are really just quotes from their own news posts ect.

Given the blame game Italy's been throwing at Atlantis for its CT limits (Atlantis forced Italy to such limits, Atlantis initiated the vote ect.) I can't really say Atlanteans in general would be very supportive hence the spotlight..

"heat engine" is a term sometimes applied to Rockets..

Quoted

Aaaaaa! Typo's everywhere!!! Weird considering the typo was x3 and in the same post, must be twitching to much.....a sign I'm going MAD!

I like the Dialect idea though, given the fact that my class of 4 airships all are essentially named "Atlantis", just different anchient references to the name.

Reminds of some story I once heard about some navy having a dozen or more boats named "Elephant", but all in different local languages.

Maybe it was Siam, in which case Swampy better get to work.
