News from Atlantis Q4/26

October 4, 1926

The Atlantian government announced that a deal has been made with Chile to design and build a new class of type a cruisers for the Chilean navy. Two variants have been approved to be laid down over the next two years. The first one will be laid down in early November in Atlantis. Engineers from the Chilean shipbuilding board will go to observe for several months before returning to lay down the second ship of the class locally. A third is scheduled for late next year with two more of a modified design the following year. Provisions to install American built 8 inch guns on the later two vessels is in the works.

October 6, 1926

The heavy cruisers Menelaus and Peleus along with the Multi purpose submarine support ship Patronis have completed trials and have joined the fleet. The Menelaus and Peleus are the newest most powerfull cruisers in the fleet. They are also the first, of a total of four heavy cruisers, designed to conform with the Cleito Treaty limitations. Its not known what type of design will follow the Menelaus class, but undoubtedly the recent contracts to build Cruisers for Chile will help determine the next step in the evolution of the Atlantian Cruiser designs.

October 8, 1926

A contract worth initially 3 million U.S. for two airships was signed with Goodyear Zeppelin and the U.S. government by Atlantis today. Its expected that several more of the class will be constructed at home in Atlantis. Construction of the two U.S built ships will begin at the begining of 1927 with follow on ships built in Atlantis in late 1927/early 1928.Currently Atlantis does not possess any rigid airships but has several types of non-rigids in service. In preperation for these airships several new airship masts are being constructed at airfeilds in Cleito, Acestus, Pheleus, Deucalion and Aufidus and its expected a purpose built airfeild will be constructed in Pyrrha. In addition to this contract Atlantis is also working on a new non-rigid design which should enter service by mid 1927.

October 23, 1926

Today 5 years after General Ordinance made the jump into the railway buisiness a new branch division has been created. G.O.L.D. or General Ordnance Locomotive Division began producing its first locomotives after the purchace of Railways and Locomotive shops in Favonus (Vulcan Ironworks, Euklid Railway) and Acestus (Western Rail & Locomotive works ).

The "GOLD" branch of General Ordnance now includes....

Atlantian National Railways
Atlas Steel company (locomotive shop in Cleito)
Falco Manufacturing Company (locomotive shop in Eridanus)
Phelleus northern railway
C&E railroad (Cleito and Eridanus)
Montreal locomotive Works (purchaced from ALCO in 1921)
Vulcan Ironworks
Euklid Railway
Western Rail & Locomotive works

General Ordnance is also working out details on a deal with the Atlantian government to purchace Atlantian National Railways, making it the first government owned railway. Its rumored that the Montreal Locomotive Works is also up for sale to the Canadian company of Canadian Pacific Railways while the Phelleus and newly aquired Euklid railways are expected to merger effectively linking the northern railways under one banner.

November 8, 1926

The first Chilean Cruiser has been laid down in Atlantis. No name has been given to her yet other than "hull 323". When completed she will provide Chile with a formidably armed 6" gunned cruiser.

In the interest of improving relations the Atlantian Foreign Minister Maren Xanthus has arranged a meeting with his counterpart from India in an attempt to clairify each others diplomatic policy's.
The meeting will take place February 12, 1927.

November 29, 1926

The Atlantian float plane carrier Praia has departed for Concepcion, Chile with the destroyers Falcon and Fortune along with the transport Solon. Upon arrival she will be transfered into Chilean hands.

December 4, 1926

Today in Russia 48 Anachists were rounded up after a suspected plot that involved assasinations of Russian Federation government officials, and three large bombing plots. Russian, Hungarian, Italian, Spanish, French, British, and American citizens were all rounded up for questioning. Thankfully Atlantis was spared the diplomatic headache of dealing with its own nationals causing trouble.

December 18, 1926

The Chilean Government as taken delivery of the first of two Atlantian floatplane carriers bought by the Chilean navy. The Praia, now renamed the Michimalonco arrived to participate will work up at Talcahuano. The Michimalonco's escort of two destroyers, the Falcon and Fortune will remain in Concepcion for a few days to take on curious visitors while their crew members enjoy some shore leave.

Hah! to be honest I didn't plan ahead for the name to be GOLD, but the creation of a "Locomotive Division" for "General Ordnance" resulted in "GO-LD".

Essentially 50% of all the railroad company's and rail equipment manufacturers are now owned by General Ordnance. The pending sale of the Atlantian National Railway and the possible sale of MLW (Montreal Locomotive works) will reduce this somewhat but they still possess a large chunk.
