Plans for new SAE ships

Dear all,

I was asked if the RSAN is building any new ships in 1941. Actually, that is not the case. The SAE's yards are bussy doing refits and working on ships and classes laid down 1940 and earlier.

However, there are plans for 1942 which is an improtant year for the RSAN, so I will provide some insight into my planning.

First, there will be a new class of motor launches. Nothing special, just a sound improvement over the last class. A bit bigger and a tad bit faster, but overall pretty much the same stuff as before. They will replace the elderly boats of the R28 class.

Second, a new class of Uboat Jagers will be laid down. Only 7 tons heavier than their predecessors, and a tad bit longer, the most significant improvement will be the installation of a second main gun to improve the designs capabilities when used for patrol duties. A late lesson learnt from the ABS war. The vessels of this class will replace the remaining units of the old UJ26 class.

Third, the river boat squadrons in South America will be supported by a new class of river gun boats. The design offers a significant improvement over the former class of 1937 with a third 10,5cm twin. (OOC: However, compared to the "river battleships" Argentina is planning for, the vessels will be at disadvantage. No good news, but the RSAN will be able to react only one the Argentine vessels are clearly identified. They have to sail past the Plate after all.... Could be the start of a new arms race.)

Forth, a new class of 550ts mine sweepers fit into the RSAN budget. Like before, the RSAN designers build on their experience and improve on existing, successful designs.

Fifth, the new standard mine sweepers will be supported by a new class of 200ts coastal mine sweepers. There have been discussions if it had not been better to build more of the ocean going design, but an analysis of the ABS war experience supported the request for more hulls.

Sixth, the 1925er River class frigates will receive a life extension refit.

Seventh, the Heavy Cruisers of the 1926er Cape class will receive a life extension refit.

Eigth, to compete with international developments, a new class of fleet carriers will be laid down. The largest ever build for the RSAN, the new ships will secure the safety of the SAE's most vital life lines. The design evolved along the lines of earlier designs.

Nineth, a new class of coastal submarines in the 500ts range will continue build-up of the submarine arm of the RSAN. Many older boats have been scrapped recently as they were overaged - a result of the Cleito Treaty. The new design is designed to suit the needs of the South American theatre.

Tenth, the ocean-going cousins of the new coastal submarines will weight around 950ts and serve the same purpose - build-up of the weak submarine arm of the RSAN.

Finally, two tenders of 4400ts each will be laid down to fill the gaps that exist since some tenders were rebuilt into landing ships.

The springsharp files of all these design can be found below.

Comments are welcome.
