Refresh my memory...

1. Who's Peru allied/aligned with?

2. Are there any deals out there involving ships, warship materials, or IP, that I should be aware of? If it's just fluffy stuff like buying planes, don't worry about it.

3. Is there any special rule associated with building auxiliaries - reduced costs, etc?

Peru's part of AEGIS - Iberia, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, and Thailand are the other member states.

Only if you 'buy' a civilian ship (for no tonnage), and then refit it. This is a shortcut a lot of us use.

I assume there's been a debate about just allowing construction at 1/4 cost - so that one could build a consistent class of auxiliaries rather than buy a series of one-offs?

There's been no formal discussion of that, but some players have assumed a 25% refit equates to a civilian-build-for-navy ship, and I think there could be a very good argument made for making it an explicitly-recognized rule.

With Italy's recent fleet replenishment ships, I paid full cost for purpose built ships, but for these ships, light displacement in SS still includes consumables which need to be subtracted to get the actual light displacement.

There are competing approaches to the question of auxiliaries, each of which I consider valid, and I have used different approaches in different circumstances.

One can design specialist naval vessels in SS, pay full cost for them and take the normal time to construct them from the keel up. I have done this for depot ships and for a number of multi-function replenishment tankers.

Alternatively one can convert a mercantile hull at 25% cost, and these have the value of low cost and shorter construction times. I would argue however that the hulls are built to mercantile standards and the survivability figures generated by Springsharp would be reduced accordingly to reflect the different standard of construction.

Going the route of the former makes better sense of a single or small number of specialist ships is desired. If a major fleet train is considered necessary, the latter route makes it possible.

From the Springstyle notes:

Also, for civilian merchant ships, divide crew and damage survival values by 10 - they have small crews, and lack the extensive compartmentation of naval ships. For naval transports, divide crew by 5 but leave survival values unchanged.

Also for submarines, SS notes give:

Specify crew as about half the listed minimum.

Well, the construction of the Ancash and the technical assistance for her Peruvian-constructed sister you are aware of. As far as I know, that is the only current deal that involves Germany.

But we are happy to consider future endeavors. ;)
